Hey everyone,

We’ve been working on a prototype rear recovery point for the 4Runner and wanted to get some outside perspective before we move further. I’ve attached a few photos below.

A couple of questions we’d love your thoughts on:
  • Do you like the general placement and design?
  • Does the clearance look right to you for off-road use?
  • Anything you’d change about the mounting setup or overall look?

This is still an early prototype so nothing is final. We really value input from people who actually use these trucks the way they’re meant to be used.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

I love the front recovery points I got from you and I've been waiting for the rear ones to come out. These look really good.

I also bought new Cold Intake you guys just released. I love your products.

Will these be a pair for drivers and passenger side? That would be nice.

I've been waiting for you guys to drop a rear recovery point to match my front ones from you guys. So appreciate this thread.

To answer your questions...
  • Do you like the general placement and design?
    • Yes, I do. In my instance, if you see in my YT video, I use my tow hook as a recovery point. This placement could complement that or I can now remove my tow hook recovery. I will address the design in your second question below.

  • Does the clearance look right to you for off-road use?
    • My suggestion would be to rotate the point to be horizontal vs vertical, in order to gain additional ground clearance. Every inch counts sometimes, and it sits up tighter for a more minimalist look. Rotating it horizontally will also match my front ones from you guys. I have self-proclaimed OCD (LOL) and would prefer all points from the same company match and have the same design. Wraps everything up very nicely.

  • Anything you’d change about the mounting setup or overall look?
    • I am obsessed with attention to detail as the smallest things matter, so if it were my company, I would design the look to match your front ones. Horizontal and have a hexogonal (5-side) look you have with your fronts...and I would certainly anodize them red and stamp the specs on them like you do with the front. It will also immediately identify them as Sxth Element vs the competition (not to be named here).

I’d rotate to match the horizontal of the front recovery points.

Unfortunately, there is only one mounting location on the 4Runner, so it will be passenger side only.

Horizontal and make the end match your front ones. If not a match, definitely square with dog ear design.

Looks good. Clearance looks like it should be fine as the tire still seems to be the first point of contact coming down. I would rotate them to maximize clearance even further and to match the front. Also make it look identical to the front so they match. Other than that looks great.

There is only one mounting point if you are simply designing a replacement for the factory tie down. If you are designing a solution, I think drilling new bolt holes would be ok if it spread the force evenly across the rear frame. Jmho.

That isn't really a feasible accessory for people to buy. That is something each individual person that wants it, would take to a custom shop and have done.

One of our principal goals when designing our parts is no cutting/body modification/frame modification as we this carries a high risk of end user error and issues.

Like I am. However there are fewer fabricator taking on small one off jobs. SXTH does some good looking fabrication. Their fronts are beautiful and soft shackle friendly. But I like duals in the rear in the event I need them, which lately has been more than I thought.
