Why only 2025 4Runners (no 2026 4Runner) on dealer lots?

My local dealer, large volume, has only 2025 4Runners and no 2026 models. Why would that be?

It seems that since the 6g 4Runner didn't reach dealers until January-February Toyota decided to build 2025s later into the year than normal. They did something similar with the Lexus GX550.

According to the spreadsheet linked on the forum's front page 2026s will start arriving in just over a week.

I asked the same question when shopping for my 4Runner. The answer I got was, “blame it on Covid for setting back production.”

It's only 2025, just cause other manufacturers sell 29's in 2026 doesn't mean Toyota Does. Every Toyota I've owned in the past 10 years has been that way.

I don’t know if that is necessarily accurate. I have always seen the upcoming year models usually drop by December. I have purchased 9 toyotas in the last 6 years and that’s the trend I have noticed. I wonder if they are intentionally waiting to allow more 2025’s to get sold before they deliver the 2026’s. Once the 26’s drop, the 25’s will be harder to move and they will have to discount them further. It’s definitely profit related.

I heard this because low North American Sales. Stockpiled on them! Sales are starting to sprout if you will. Word is spreading they're not that bad!

There was quite a bad rap on them in the beginning. And currently I still hear bad talk.

They come on a ship, have to be fitted at the port with add-ons like running boards, etc. Then the cars got allocated and trucked to the dealers… Only God knows Toyota’s dealings..

Folks are still grieving for the Gen 5 and its 4.0l naturally aspirated engine, plus the Mexican built Tacos are naturally having issues and because it is a close sibling the 4 Runner makes buyers hesitant. However this is a Tahara built truck which has shown no issues at all and people are beginning to get it. Sales will be very high as usual in the months to come…

Yep, I agree, when I got my 5R off-road I never saw any, but by 2016 they were everywhere! I'm pretty sure this will be the same. I've already seen a few in my area that have been decked out to the max! And most of them always seem to be passing me up and accelerating a lot faster than my Undertaker speed! But that's okay they're feeling good about their new rides. Changed out the oil at 200 mi from Factory and approaching 1K right now. Will do a 2nd change prior to my short 1500 Mile Road trip coming up.

2026 builds are just starting to come in December. They were added to Toyota's website at the end of October and they started to build early November. I'm currently waiting on a Trailhuter and it is slotted to come form Dec 9th -25th at the moment. There's about 300 2026 4runner models on that ship coming from Japan.

“Naturally” having issues. My 6th gen force max walks all over my 5th antique V6. Maybe they’d go 300k miles but they were noisy and very thirsty dogs.

ports of entry will always move older gens out of the port inventory before shipping next MY vehicles.

26's are already sitting in long beach port but its been said they will not move them until 25 are moved out first.

My 2025 Limited finally came in to my dealer.

I decided not to take delivery and put a 2026 on order at basically the same price.

I have a vin for the 26 Limited and located it on the allocation sheet it’s due at the dealer last week of Jan 26.
