Howdy all!
Looking for persuasion/dissuasion/advice perhaps from members who have been in a similar position. Any and all advice is welcome!
I hopped on a deal I couldn’t pass up and I really didn’t give it much thought till post purchase. I found me a set of 5 Falken Wildpeaks for $450 with a lot of tread left on them except for 1 tire that can pass as the spare; I’m sure that’s what it was previously. The other 4 have what looks to be a few thousand miles on them. The catch here however is that 1 of the tires is a AT4W and the rest are AT3Ws. My plan would be to run the 3 good AT3s and 1 good AT4 and have the 1 spare AT3 (less tread).
Now after some research I found out that the AT4s are not only slightly heavier but also leave the factory with a little more meat (19/32”) new compared to new AT3s (17/32”). Meaning that the AT4 probably weighs more compared to the AT3s even with the wear. Other things to note: the 3s are 2021 and the single AT4 is from 2024. Lastly one of the AT3s is somewhat cupping.
My concern is: could this affect daily driving comfort and how would running this set up affect the ride over the long run? Could this affect sensitive systems like ABS and A-TRAC? Unfortunately I don’t have a tread gauge to get 100% readings on the treads and show yall but I want to start this post and come back with some #. I want to get some insight from members and see if anyone has done something like this and found it’s been just fine.
This may seem over the top and a waste of time but if I can effectively run this set up I’d say it’s a major win
