Has anyone upgraded the stock differential(s) on their 4runner?

If I end up with an SR5 (likely), I'd be very interested in upgrading at least the rear diff, and possibly the front diff, with Truetrac LSDs. Has anyone done this upgrade? How much did it cost? How do you find someone who can actually do this kind of upgrade? It is well beyond my DIY abilities.

what is your goal with the 4runner needing a new diff ?
the auto lsd and a-trac is extremely capable of getting you into and out of the crud

The vehicle comes factory-equipped with Auto LSD (an electronic, brake-actuated limited-slip system) on all 2WD and 4WD models. Four-wheel-drive models also feature A-TRAC (Active Traction Control), which electronically mimics the performance of an LSD by braking spinning wheels to send power to those with grip

Controlling slip at the wheels with braking reduces strain on the pumpkin and axles by orders of magnitude

also replacing the diff will open you up to negating most of the factory warranty (drive line/transmission and anything directly or indirectly connected to the diffs). also will negate any possibility of getting an extended vsa warranty.

ECGS can sell you built 3rd member with a TrueTrac or locker but I haven’t seen anything offered in their site yet for the 6th gen, might be worth a phone call. You can always send them yours if you can live with the downtime too.

I went with them when I swapped diffs on the Mrs Tacoma sport and they were awesome to deal with, installing a third member wasn’t rocket surgery at all.

Curious, why not just go with an OR non-premium if you _need_ a locker?

Why not just buy an older 4Runner instead of tearing into a brand new one? So many questions. If you do go through with this make sure to do the blinker fluid swap while you’re in there, will save you a ton of time later!

I would ordinarily say ignore the naysayers and to do it if you want it, but there are no torsen LSDs available for the 8.2” differential.

Well if none exist (torsen or truetrac) then that settles that!
