I wanted to share here as I looked for people’s input and advice before I got our 2026 4Runner undercoated.

After calling a lot of local shops and gathering information I decided to go with Mass Mobile undercoating in Holden, MA. The owner Todd has been great to work with and took the time to explain everything and provide clear up front pricing.

I went with the Boss Wax system from NHOU which is a permanent dry to touch wax on outer frame parts that stays flexible and oil fogging on all inner frame and body panel surfaces. Todd also does annual oil undercoating with NHOU product as well.

Looking forward to keeping this thing rust free and bringing it back to Todd at Mass Mobile undercoating for fogging and wax check in 2 years to see how it’s holding up!

Never heard of this stuff. Looks good though. I just usually grab a couple cans of Woolwax and go to town.

It’s the Boss Wax system from the brand: NHOU. The initial work was $1400 and the guy who owns the shop will do refogging (oil mist spray) on all internal frame and body panel areas and wax touch up as needed every 2 years for free or he said $50 if it is a lot of wax touch up.

I get a yearly undercoating with the NHOU lanolin product (forget what it's called). $230
Works great.
$1400 seems super high for undercoating.

I get Rust Kote out here in Buffalo and have been doing so on all my vehicles for the last 20 years. It's an oil-based product and drips off so you have to get it touched up barrier but it's only $139 and that counts bring it into the doors, into the fenders and then the plug the holes with rubber plugs. If you just get it sprayed on the bottom without any holes, rockers, or fender wells it's about 89 bucks. Well worth the money to try to keep it as rust-free as possible.

I do Krown undercoating. Same thing, they drill holes strategically and plug them afterwards, about $130 every year.

It’s $1400 up front and free re-mist of oil on inner frame and body panels every 2 years, and either free or $50 for wax touch up every 2 years. Seemed like the right option for me.

If it keeps rot away for ten years, that's a steal. It's a bunch up front, but it's buying protection that should last.

I had called around to several shops and researched the products they use and this is why I choose this system, from google/NHOU. I thought the touch ups every 2years would be better for my busy schedule then an annual service and this local shop said he will do the touch ups for free or $50 if it’s a lot of wax that needs touch up:

The NHOU (New Hampshire Oil Undercoating) Boss Wax system offers a lifetime, transferable warrantywhen applied by an authorized dealer, provided you return for a required inspection every 2 years (where touch-ups or re-fogging may be done). [1, 2, 3]

Lifespan & Warranty Details
  • Warranty Type: Lifetime and transferable (for new or rust-free vehicles).
  • Check-In Schedule: Requires an inspection every 2 years with an authorized applicator to maintain active warranty coverage.
  • System Breakdown: Combines a dry-to-the-touch, flexible permanent wax barrier on outer frame and exposed surfaces with oil fogging applied inside frame rails and body cavities.
  • Upkeep: While the outer wax layer is long-lasting, the inner oil-fogged components need periodic re-application or checks during your 2-year maintenance visits. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Always good to try and get ahead of the rust. I use Krown and get my vehicles sprayed every year. 15 years with my car and am happy with how its held up.

My take:

I recently saw a video discussing thick underbody protection coatings. If the coating is wax-based, I would be careful. Over time, some coatings can bubble, crack, or peel, allowing moisture to get trapped underneath. This can actually accelerate rust and damage the vehicle's frame rather than protect it.

My understanding is that if you live in a coastal city, where humidity is high and salt is present in the air because of the ocean, your vehicle is at a much higher risk of developing rust.

My personal experience:

I've driven on the beaches in North Carolina 3–4 times. I used CRC Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor .

The first time, I drove through beach water and played around on the beach. Even though I had applied the spray, I still noticed rust developing in several spots. I actually washed the vehicle 3–4 days after that trip.

Interestingly, every time I went for a beach drive, I noticed some rust, even on occasions when my tires never touched the water.
apart of all the break routors get bad with salt water very easily .

My recommendation:

If you're on a budget, I highly recommend CRC Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor.

  • Apply approximately one bottle before each snowfall to help protect against road salt.
  • Apply it again before going on a beach drive.
  • One or two bottles may be enough for basic annual protection, depending on how much of the underbody you cover.
In my experience, this spray can provide approximately 60–70% protection, but don't treat that as a guaranteed figure. You still need to inspect your vehicle regularly, especially underneath.

If you find rust developing, use a wire brush or metal brush to remove the loose rust, clean the affected area, and apply an appropriate rust-resistant primer and paint.

The downside:

The spray does leave a slightly greasy or oily residue. You'll notice that feeling wherever you apply it. It's not extremely messy, but it does leave an oily surface.

For me, it's an affordable option worth considering, especially if you regularly drive in coastal areas or where roads are treated with salt during winter.
