That left side cubby hole had been bugging my for awhile so I finally decided to try to do a simple mod without tearing it up too much

Cut out 4 holes and put some straps attached to buckle sliders so I can strap in lighter things like blankets, rope, or my Wolfbox compressor

@djk Oh wow, great idea! Any links to the straps? What tool did you use to cut the holes? Thanks!

I didn’t get the 15 speaker system like you.
I have the 15-speaker TRD ORP JBL setup but I don't have a speaker on the driver side cargo area. I do have the (sad) sub on the passenger side. I didn't realize some came with speakers on both sides!

I bought the straps and grommets. but the metal bracket you placed behind the cutouts didn't come with those. Where did you get those, and what are the sizes? Thanks!

The silver ones were some left over slide buckles from something else but for the two others I bought these ones from amazon.

Pretty cool mod! I might steal this, but I'd likely put the straps horizontally so they can hold things vertically. I often wedge things like water jugs, gas cans, milk from the grocery store, etc. in that spot and I hate that there's no easy way to secure them. Always been jealous of other SUVs like the Trailsport that have actual storage cubbies built in around the wheel wells... really wish Toyota would realize that they market the 4Runner to people who like GEAR and design their trunks accordingly.
