My first 4Runner and love it! Been reading about Toyota paint issues, specifically the white, and wondering what people are doing wrt PPF treatments. I've never had a car/truck done before but then again I have never paid this much for truck lol. I was thinking of having the front bumper section done since the front end is pretty blunt to the road surface. Quote was $650 for Xpel Plus or $780 for Xpel Fsusion.

I did the bumper and partial hood. Here in SW Utah there are dump trucks everywhere due to endless new house construction. I figure it’s only a matter of time before a windshield hit.

highly recommend, had my STi for almost 14 years with a full front wrap and partial hood and it still looked great when i traded it in for the 4Runner. New 4Runner is going in for the same treatment next month.

Hey David. Hope you're loving your new 4Runner. Like you, my TRD Pro is the first 4Runner I've had and absolutely love it. Mine is Black and the paint was a mess when I took delivery. The dealership corrected it all for me, but the paint is just so soft and just looking at it seems to cause a swirl... I am going the bit more extreme route and doing an Xpel full body PPF. It's pricey, but I was able to mitigate it a bit, to bring it down to something a but more reasonable. I live in NW Montana and the roads and elements are really rough on vehicles here, so for me it was worth it.

I'd maybe recommend looking at a full front PPF job, which would take it all the way to the windshield. That way, the whole front end is protected from what the road can throw at it. My guess is that would be around $2k-$2,500. If you are planning on keeping your rig for a while and want to keep the paint looking nice, think about it as an insurance policy.

For what it's worth I got a quote for XPEL full body PPF, ceramic and tint for $10k for a 25 ORP. They did other vehicles I own - not the current 24 4Runner because I was hedging on me liking the 25.

I did it on my 5th gen, which was also white. Terrible idea, lol. I could see the line where the film was all the time because it takes just a tiny bit of dirt/dust for the line to show up on white. For dark colors it's less of an issue, but I wouldn't do it on a white vehicle again.

I could see that. The guys that do mine actually wrap under or behind the vehicle so the line isn’t shown. Amazing work. I had to look really hard to see PPF was there.

Not worth it. When you go to trade your car in the dealer doesn’t care if your paint is a 10/10 or a 5/10. Just do regular washing and waxing and park in the back of parking lots.

Oh for sure it's wasted money if you want to trade it in. If it becomes your "forever car" ie you plan to keep it for at least 8 years or more I think it's worth it.

Thanks for all the replies. A full front is probably out of the question due to the cost (around $2400) and convincing my wife ;)
I tend to keep my cars a long time (10+ years) if they are reliable. The front of the 4R is pretty blunt so that is why I was thinking doing the bumper section but since its plastic is it less of a concern than say a painted metal surface?
