No, but maybe if you have the OEM roof rails. I did have to adjust how far open the door opens by holding down the button to close the door. I only lost about half an inch of opening doing this and does not come in contact with roof box. The OEM rails location is dictated by the holes in the rail which limit where and how far back or forward you can install the roof box. The roof box is adjustable for how far forward or back the rack is sitting. I have the Thule aero wing roof rails which I installed which the widest stance possible.Does the Thule Motion 3 XL affect your ability to open the rear door all the way up?
I got mine at my local REI store (Becuase if your a member they have additional guarantees and can return within a year of purchase). You can also purchase at many outdoor adventure stores. This looks really nice. Where did you order these ?
I used a Thule 614 Pulse medium 14 cu ft for a 2500 mile road trip this last October. I mounted it just in front of the rear roof antenna and it extends into about 1/3 of the moon roof. It worked great. Only con is that it only opens on the passenger side and it's hard to reach the driver-side mounting clips when installing and removing the box.Any recommendations for a cargo roof box for 2025 SR5?
MadGhost: sorry to revive such an old thread, but I was searching the forum to confirm I can fit a Skybox 18 on my 4Runner. I used it for years on my Odyssey and love it--huge capacity, easy to install, load, open, close. But of course the rails on the Odyssey were much longer than the 4Runner. I am afraid I will have to slide the SkyBox so far forward on the crossbars to open the trunk that it will be unsafe (or just look awkward, which obviously I can't allow!)![]()
I bought the Carbon 18 from REI 4 or so years ago and have used it about twice a year, with one of those times being a 16 day road trip each summer so my box has seen prob 20k miles of driving and is holding up very well. Goes on easy, never had any type of issue that wasn't caused by myself. One of the hinges showed some stress on the plastic but I had way overloaded it and just tried to force it closed instead of figuring out what wasn't fitting.
Picture might help, I guess I'm still confused. You said no, which I took to mean the back door opens up all the way but then said you lost a half an inch of opening. Could you help me understand? No, but maybe if you have the OEM roof rails. I did have to adjust how far open the door opens by holding down the button to close the door. I can send a picture later

Did you have any problems positioning it or getting clearance for the trunk/tailgate? It seems like a lot of 4Runner owners are using a Skybox 16, but that's shorter. Any photos of your setup?
Thanks!
I am using factory rails and Yakima TimberLine Towers paired w/JetStream bars, if that's relevant to your answer.
Looks great. thanks.![]()
