Honestly fun as hell, made it thru the ditch closest to here 4-5times… then the grave mistake…. Is it the stock tires? Noob driver? Or because i didnt have my ditch lights on? Crawl control in 4l, 4h, nothing working, and im seemingly digging deeper trying…what should the steps be to avoid this in the future all seriousness, better tires and a winch and im good? Know im not supposed to go alone but thats going to continue happening. Happy easter!

😲 Looks like mud / water didn't get into the cabin at least? How'd you end up getting extracted?

Are there trees where you’re standing to take a pic?
If so a simple recovery rope kit with knowledge of how to use it should get you out of that.

As far as how to avoid it in the future … if you are alone go check how deep the ditch is before trying to cross it and if you are unsure just don’t do it knowing that there’s no one near to help you if you get it wrong. Bigger tires might have helped a little, more speed would have helped a lot more. I know it’s a lot more fun to do a little muddding rather than driving around it, but being on your own should affect your line decisions.

All that said if you go through massive puddles sometimes you just get stuck, it’s part of the deal.

Happy Easter! Tires could've (potentially) helped avoid this a little bit, traction boards and winches are awesome when they don’t. Keep having fun either way.
I have traction boards, but i dont want to use them and sink more and get water in cabin, its super close lol… I have 2 but cant tell which wheels would really take them in this situation? Would i just do the front 2 because they are most accessible?

I hear ya on all the going alone and being careful. New to offroading and i told myself i wouldnt upgrade this thing besides the douchey ditchlights until i put it to the test, want to keep it as “stock” as possible because its my daily (hurts saying my daily is in the position rn). Hopefully my line spotting and decision making gets better with time… but also, i did look up a lot of videos on self recovery when i first got this, but I dont think I understand how a kinectic rope and tree can get a single car out alone, i thought the kinetic rope was solely for using with another vehicle? Let me look that up as i wait on a winch ha.

I heard the Pine Barrens with the sand can get very quick sandy after lots of rain. Do you have a winch? You could do a makeshift deadman anchor by burying your traction boards.

Also, I’ve seen people use crawl control to self recover but that is in dry sand.

No winch. And yeah its pretty wicked back here, i knew this going in, i was hear twice over the winter and on friday i was here in this exact area… i figured because it did not really rain since friday, i was good to hit any of these puddles today…. Its also crazy, because the nearest puddle, i hit in 2wd sport mode, barely, but got it haha. Then i hit it 4-5x over in 4wd and was blasting through… this farther puddle ate me like an early easter dinner lol. I wish i could elicit the feeling of going through that puddle too as i sit here waiting on a winch, but all i can harken back to is bottoming out in this pit lol

Of all the drive modes, crawl seemed to burrow me in more, my running boards were just above the water before i tried different stuff, and once the boars hit the water i figured it was time to call someone

Definitely the ditch lights…😂. You would benefit from a more aggressive tread pattern, airing down, and momentum. Of course I’ve done all of the above and still had the same result as you. Part of the fun of off roading.. To recover, traction boards and a winch would be helpful, or a buddy with a good snatch strap.

Sorry for your trouble, tires would have helped. At least it's not in the cab, but I have to say that is why I didn't spend more for an OR and purchased an SR5 4x4. I never used the crawl even in sand on my 2017 Tacoma OR. Air down and 4H will usually do the trick.

air tires down to 15 PSI, Lock rear diff and make sure it stays locked (the Gen 67 will unlock differential if you turn truck off). After airing down activate crawl control IN REVERSE and pay close attention to how the truck reacts. The truck should pull back at least 6 inches. If the truck does not pull back, then your finished, your spare tire has hung you up and the only option is to use recover boards or get a tow. If there are tree branches close by you can try gravving trunks and logs and throwing them under the front tire and that could work too but if that rear spare is hanging you up, your pretty much hooped without serious recover gear on you.

If you have rubber matts, wrap them around logs before you put the log under the tire, this can sometimes help as well.
