So sorry your 4R got stolen! Key Fob Cloning is the new method for thieves to get cars easily and quickly. After reading your post yesterday, I went searching for a solution. Here is what works for us: Both key fobs get stored on the kitchen counter in our small titanium backpacking pot. The metal prevents thieves from getting a signal to clone. You can verify it works by getting in your car, put the key fob in the pot, and the car won't start! There are expensive bags and containers sold by Faraday, but if you camp like we do, you have the perfect solution for free.

That's great to do but what about theives physically breaking into the vehicle & using the OBD2 port to access the CPU & using it to program a blank key?

I'm currently researching what the best & most secure OBD2 physical lock is worth paying for & installing.

Didn't know there are lock covers available for the OBD2 port until you mentioned. Wow! The OBD2 lock covers are pricey! Curious how they work and if it's really effective at preventing someone from accessing the port. Is it just turning the lock cylinder with a key grips the OBD2 port with teeth that clamps tight (friction grip) around the port or is there something that the lock cover latches into? I haven't actually seen one in use yet.

I have the same questions actually. I've never seen one in person & just recently learned that theives can make new keys this way.

They don't even need to access the obd2 port, they just need to splice into 2 canbus wires (hi,low). These wires are even accessible from the exterior of the vehicle, head\tail light for example. The only sure way to prevent these attacks is an immobilizer, i have the IGLA. The canbus systems on these vehicles are not encrypted.

Thanks everyone for all your support!! After this happened to us I bought the box to store the keys, I bought something to lock the steering wheel, and I also installed a immobilizer, after waiting 5-1/2 months to get our truck back, I haven’t been able to enjoy the truck because now days thieves can find different ways to steal your truck/ car
If I go anywhere with the truck and if I parked somewhere I’m always thinking that hopefully the truck still there when I come back, that’s exactly how I feel
