In doing my prep work for installing 3rd party aux swithches (not pictured) for a roof light and ditch lights and compressor. I found that the current installed default square switches are "Keyed" on their tops and bottoms with unique key channels (no 2 are the same) and matching groves for them in the dash panel (see attached photos.) limiting their placement and locations. I was planning on rearranging the default square switches lower on switch panel so that more commonly used switches would be on top and in sight and the lesser used ones would be out of the way. I can count on 1 finger, how many times I used the light brightness on gage cluster or head light adjustment.

Thought, solutions or possible hazard (or what's eveyone else's doing) of

I'm sure there's a purpose, but from our perspective, that's some asshole design right there LOL

If you're really wanting to move them and this didn't dissuade you...I'd shave the ridges off the switches instead of messing with the grooves.

Are the blanks keyed or have some common grooves. I’m wondering if switches from CH4x4 will slot into any of the blank locations or they are all keyed differently as well?

Do the switch caps pop off ?

Rearrange the caps 🤷‍♂️
This was my exact first thought.

Second was finding or making a sticker kit to "relabel" the witches and just replump the wiring to what you change/add

They are keyed like that so they cannot be insert incorrectly during assembly. If all the male plugs on the harness are keyed the same, I would try swapping caps and the male plugs. If the male plugs are keyed differently you may have to de-pin the male connectors.

its to ensure assembly is correct for the canbus

you wouldnt want a switch to be for the headlight leveling and you are thinking they are for the auto high beam switch.

kinda reminds me of the old meme i saw years ago where a jeep had two different fenders on the front. one was painted on the drivers side and the passenger side was plastic black.

toyota making sure you cant install the switches wrong
