I’ve been having this problem with my 4Runner ORP. I’ve taken it to the dealer shop twice. What’s going on is when I have rear passengers and we drop them off for example in car line and they get out. The care continues to beep for the rear seat. Only way to stop it is buckling the seatbelt back in. The first time I took it to Toyota they said when you disconnect the rear belt and get out. The indicator should stop after a short drive. That didn’t work so I took it back today. And now they’re saying everytime I drop somebody off that I need to turn the vehicle off. This does not sound right to me. Anybody have some insight on this or had this similar problem. Just doesn’t seam right to me to have to turn of the vehicle everytime someone gets out.

Mine doesn't beep but a symbol flashes for a little bit and then goes off on its own, I did not adjust any settings.

have the dealer shutoff the beep in techstream for backseat warning or use carista.

i turned it off on our 23 tundra. all i have now is an indicator on the MID screen that shows all the time.

Coincidentally a similar issue happened to me two days ago. I dropped my son off and my daughter unbuckled her seatbelt and climbed into the front passenger seat from the back. As soon as I started driving the seatbelt chime kept going off and wouldn’t stop. We had to pull over and buckle the rear seatbelt. I have never had a car do this before. Seems like the sensor in the seat that tells you someone is in the back should be able to deactivate the chime when it shows no one is there. Another technology fail by Toyota.

I thought someone here said there was a way to unplug the rear seat wire harness so this never happens?

I have the same issue! I just researched and AI found this option. I will be trying it in the morning. :)

To turn off the rear seat unbuckled alarm (Rear Occupant Alert) in your 2025 4Runner, go to your vehicle's settings menu on the multi-information display (MID), navigate to Vehicle Settings, find and select Rear Seat Reminder, and then toggle the feature Off. You can access this menu using the controls on your steering wheel and the OK button to select options.

Do you have seat covers on the rear seats? My rear set belt indicator is always on since I installed them.

it worked! We got two seat belt extenders, one for driver and one for daughter’s backseat. It is the best solution for this irritating feature. :) AMD still safe!
