Question: Upgrading 32” to 33” Tire on TRD Off-road Premium

Question for you guys. If I put bigger 33” BFG ALT on my 4 Runner. Do I need to get an alignment? Also, how does the ride feel after switching to bigger tires. I don’t want to loose the smoothness and the way it drives but I definitely want bigger tires. I’d only put them on if there sit a negative effect to the vehicle or driving experience. 90% of the time this vehicle will be driven around the city. During the hunting season I hit dirt roads but nothing crazy.

Depends on which tire you go with. Main things to consider here are:

• Load Rating: Your stock tires are SL, and will be soft. Most ATs in these sizes are Load range E, which has more plys for durability and puncture protection offroad, but will be a much stiffer ride. The KO3 in the sizes for this truck are load E and will be much stiffer and heavier.
• Weight: Most ATs are going to be much heavier, which will hurt MPG.

Personally the sweet spot for these trucks would be a C Load range, which is almost non existent in a 18" wheel size. I personally may go down to a 17" wheel so I can run 285/70/17 BFG Ko3s in load range C at 33". Lots of folks on here running Load Es and not complaining about it, but its definitely a subjective thing and each choice has its trade offs. Check out the aftermarket tire/wheel megathread for a bunch of info from different setups on here.

Oh yeah, forgot to reply to that part of your question. Alignment is not needed for tire size increase. Only if you lift the truck.

E rated tires also depend a lot on the weight I think.

Falkens and BFG E-rated are heavier by 8-10lbs each, compared to Toyo or Bridgestone.

I put E Rated LT275/70-18 Bridgestone Dueler AT Ascent on my TRD OR and the ride really isn't that far off from stock, but is a touch firmer on sharper bumps. This is running them at 37psi as well.

You are the best. Last question for you. If I add a 1 or a 1.5” spacer will it mess up my bilstein suspension or anything with the front end? Or is a 1” spacer harmless? Thinking of leveling the vehicle

I just did the 1.25" peak level spacer and it didn't change the ride noticeably. Maybe like a hair stiffer over bumps. It's mostly just aesthetics. It doesn't change anything enough to mess anything up with the stock bilsteins though. The 2.5" spacers I think are a different story because you're decreasing your down travel quite a bit. You will need an alignment though.

I am generally not a fan of leveling kits because rake (more height in the back) is there for a reason. Pack your truck full of gear and people and all of a sudden the back is sagging lower than the front and you're blinding everyone on the road at night (luckily we have headlight height adjustment in these trucks). BUT this truck needed a slight adjustment IMO. It still has positive rake even when I have my dog and gear in it. If it does sag you can always throw some air lift air bags in there easily and on the cheap.

Freaking love that blue. I wanted that color so bad but my wife didn’t like it. Happy wife = happy life. Man I wish I had that color. I think that 1.25” spacer and 33” would really make it look at lot better. I’m going to do that. I’ll post a before and after when I’m done. Thanks so much!

I dropped down to 17" wheels and put 285/70/17 BFG TA KO3s on it rides super smooth, and in my opinion actually feels better than stock. Can't put my finger on it, but I really like the ride quality. Going to do the 1.25 peak level soon
