OEM skid plate prices

Does anyone have some pictures of the Land Cruiser "TOYOTA" skid plate on their 4Runner? Any thoughts on quality/ durability of it versus the TRD aluminum skid?

I can't speak to the quality vs. the TRD skid since I haven't seen or handled that one in person. The LC skid has some heft to it, feels sturdy/strong. I'm happy with the perceived quality for the price. We'll see how it goes once I actually see some trails.

I’m with ASFIR (we’re also proud supporters of the forum), and I’ve been following this thread. Really helpful seeing what everyone’s been paying for the OEM skids.

For anyone comparing options in that range, it might help to look at weight + usability + coverage, not just material.

Weight
From what I’ve seen:

• Most OEM steel plates are slightly heavier, but still in a similar range for a single front plate
• The TRD plate and aftermarket aluminum options (including ASFIR) are all in a pretty similar range (~20–25 lbs)

So overall, weight differences between front plates are fairly minor (unless 3/16"+ steel). Factory steel is a bit heavier, but not dramatically so. Heavier aftermarket steel (typically 3/16") is where weight starts to increase more משמעותית.

Usability
Where things start to matter more is how the plate is designed and used.

One thing that doesn’t always get mentioned is maintenance access:

A lot of plates (OEM included) require removing them for oil changes.
ASFIR plates (and some other aftermarket options) include dedicated openings for both the oil filter and drain plug, so you don’t have to remove the skid every time — small thing, but it adds up.

Coverage
Another thing worth looking at is how complete the front coverage actually is.

On some factory options, the trim piece between the skid plate and the front bumper is minimal or missing, which can leave a gap where dirt, mud, or debris can get pushed up into the engine bay.

ASFIR plates include that front section as part of the design, helping create more continuous protection up to the bumper.

Just sharing context as another option to consider alongside OEM. Aluminum aftermarket plates are typically more expensive, but they can offer added coverage, strength, and easier maintenance over time.

Not saying OEM isn’t a solid starting point (especially at those prices), but if you’re comparing options, it’s worth thinking about:

• design and usability (like maintenance access)
• whether you’ll want more coverage later
• and how everything adds up over time

Hi all:
Just curious about the lowest price(s) people have seen for the OEM skid plate (PTR60-35240). High price (IMO) out of the chute and didn’t qualify for the recent 40% offer so I’m thinking about just waiting until the initial craze phase is over…..hopefully LOL.

I went down this rabbit hole as well. Make sure that you're looking at a skid plate from a non-hybrid version. They are different and they have different part numbers but a lot of people just sell them as a TRD 4Runner skid plate.
