Imma just leave this here. My only FOMO was not having the rear locker from the OFF ROAD package but my SR5 with the standard A-TRAC proving it is not needed here. Passenger rear and front driver both with barely any traction getting it handled. Front even floating as seen. Anyone else pushing the capabilities?

Even the non “Off-Road”-named trim 4Runners are capable enough to handle all but the most technical trails/obstacles

I am contemplating taking off my front sway bar to get more travel out of the front suspension

My 5th Gen SR5 has never let me down. Pic from the time that my left side wheels ended up in a freshly plowed field; I could reach down from the driver's seat and grab a handful of moist/loose dirt.

If you do this. Can you come back here and report how it affect your ON road performance as well? Thinking of doing the same just to get a little softer ride on road.

^ it is dangerous to drive surface streets and highway with disconnected sway bar

vehicle will roll more in everyday turning and cornering,
and emergency avoidance maneuvers could flip you vs when
connected, maybe it won't flip

The sway bar will only impact making the ride softer if only one tire his a bump. If both hit a bump then the bar just moves up and down with them. I would try to pay attention to when it feels too stiff. Otherwise you could compromise safety without seeing much benefit.

For example, if crossing railroad tracks that at perpendicular to the road. If your 4runner handles them smoothly then making changes to the sway bar will help. If not then it's not the sway bar. I don't know if there's a softer sway bar option. Maybe one from a 2wd Tacoma might work.

I don't think I would eliminate the front one. If you do go down that path I would try disconnecting the rear bar first. But be careful. The sway bar controls body roll. Being higher off the ground than a car it can easily create problems. For example going around a corner then suddenly braking.

For off-road performance disabling the front sway bar is more beneficial.

But yeah I mostly find the rear of the truck to ride harsh so I am more curious how it feels with the rear disabled.

You guys are very impressive with your book knowledge. Lifting a truck, putting aftermarket tires, loading overlanding gear on roof racks. They all alter the driving experience and can cause increased driving danger. I am trying to gain real life experience and am thinking about seeing how it is gonna handle. Every mod is a process of tradeoffs. We do a lot of offroading here in Hawaii and use these vehicles thoroughly so offroad performance is almost as important as on road. Which doesn’t seem to matter to many of the online warriors. I will report back if I ever get around to it. 🤙🏾
