Good scientific wide vs narrow tire comparisons by these guys. They compare pizza cutters tires (11.5" wide) all the way up to 13.5" wide tires, and aired up and air down.

And if you've never seen this one before, it was another really good wide vs. narrow tire comparison

Yeah! That video swayed me into pizza cutters.

Running 255/85R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss R/T tires

34.5” x 9.9”

Only had to trim mud flaps to fit. Caster 3.1 degrees

Sweet ride! I've got a blue ORP as well.
Man I don't know how many times I've compared sizes/weights/load rating for the Baja Boss ATs. I wish they made some C loads in more options. How are you liking those pizza cutter 35 E's? Quoted at 64lb which is much lighter than than 315/70/17 (71), 295s (72) and only 1lb more than the 285's (63) which is only a 33" tire. The standard load 285/70/17 is only 48lb but less durable and less aggressive side biters/shallower tread so I'm a little more concerned with that.

I would love to know any changes to:
- fuel economy
- ride quality
- by "fit" I assume no run at full lock and suspension stuffed?

Thanks!

Went from 21 mpg in city to 18.9 (I didn’t account for difference in circumference. So likely the mpg is better than what the dash said)
Ride quality is great!
No rub at full lock, small trim on mudguard, got to keep them on so I’m very happy!

If you’re thinking about it, get them.

It was this or Toyo C load 34x10.5 or 285/75/r17.

The narrowness on these tires allow you to fit a 35 with almost no work to wheel well

The mickey thompson baja boss tires are the best tires i have ever had and I have had them all. I will never purchase any other tire again. Have had them for over 30k miles on my GX460. Amazing in every situation. Wet, dry, snow, mud, rocks. The best. Cant wait to put them on the 4runner.

Good video! Everybody has different preferences for different reasons. I do not want anything wider than a 265, which limits me to all the AT tires I have looked at to 32 inch tire...which is fine with me. Why? Wider AT tires that stick out past the fender flares tend to cause more dings and paint damage.

Hello! Posted this info in a different thread but thought more folks may be interested in the subject of tire and wheel sizing. Here is video that has definitely influenced me and my individual use case on the subject. Look forward to hearing how this may influence folks here in their wheel/tire upgrade choices.

Saw that same thing. Why I'm probably sticking 265/70/18 with the AT4Ws. Actual 33" diameter tire and I won't have to modify anything or have an issue fitting a full spare. Don't see any need for any wider, for my preference.

Same here. The only downside to sticking with 265 is the options available. Going to a 275 opens things up a bit but then not sure sticking a 275 on an 8” wide wheel is advisable. Would likely have to move to 8.5” or 9” width.

I’m running 255/75R17 on my Taco, I’m swapping my tires/wheels either the 18” that will be on the 4R if the dealer can ever get one. I wanted to go with 255/80R17, but could only find them in 10 ply and I was too scared of a harsh ride.

One thing that could get me to go up to 275 is you can get the Falken Wildpeak R/T01 tire in that size. 265 I can only get the AT4W. The BGF KO3 you can also get in D and E load in either 265 or 275.

Two capable choices in the Falken and BFG. Always surprised how heavy those tire can get. I’ve been looking at the Cooper Road and Trail or Bridgestone Dueler Ascent. Want an AT with good road manners but can get me through a mess when needed. Heck, a contrarian pick would be the Pirelli Scorpion XTM. Hear it’s a damn good tire too.

Not sure about that, for the Toyo Open Country AT III, 8" is the ideal size for a 275.
