So I picked up my TRD Sport Premium about a month ago and it didn't come with mud flaps. I basically bought my 4Runner to bed all the terrible weather up here in the Northeast and some light trails, nothing crazy off road but I figured I better put some mud flaps on to keep this salt and crap from splashing up under the truck and off the rocker panels. I picked up a set of Muslogy mud flaps and started putting them on this morning and they're about an 8/10 but I wished there was some flex to them. I'm starting to 2nd guess putting these or any mud flaps on at all. Just checking to see if there's any definitive reasons people chose not to run mud flips.

Toyota installed these on the Gen5 vehicles. I'm confused why these are absent on the Gen6? I've ordered a set of Toyota Accessory ones for our TRDORP and ordered my Pro with them. No rock chips on the Rockers and behind the rear wheels on the lower Quarters. Seems like a no brainer?

My ORP came with them--might have been an installed option. I think they are fine, especially on-road. I suspect they will generally be fine off-road as well, as they stay quite close to the tires. I am sure it would be possible to hit/damage them on rough off-road activity. but if you that you are probably pretty close to damaging the metal behind the tire as well. I've done some light off-roading and have not damaged them, although I did bend the bottom of the factory installed running board underneath (no damage to the mud flap or anything else, including the running board itself).

just so you know, the 6th gen has 2 different set of mud guards. fronts have no lettering, rear has "4RUNNER" stamped in them and are about $105 for the 4 piece set

there is actuall 2 different width mudguards.

all except the trd pro uses this part # 2025 4Runner Mudguard Kit - Toyota (PK389-35S00-TP)

the trd pro uses the wide kit version part # 2025 4Runner TRD PRO WIDE MUDGUARD KIT - Toyota (PK389-35S10-TP)

Thanks for sharing. Ordered a set for our TRDORP over the weekend. Had I have known, would have made sure I ordered the wider ones as I'm thinking of finding a set of Pro or Trail Hunter takeoff wheels and tires

Get the mud guards! what ever brand you like. I ran my SR5 without Mud guards on a recent fishing trip that included about 300 miles on dirt/gravel/washboard roads and when I got home, the rear doors (where they flair out) was peppered with paint chips. A couple of weeks later I put on the stock mud guards and made the same trip, it was wet this time so the gravel was not flying quite as bad, much better with the mud guards. The design of the rear doors catches everything coming off of the tires. FYI- I have stock size KO2 tires, so nothing big or radical.

Just installed the Rally Armor flaps on my Mudbath Pro. They look great, went on pretty easy, but the instructions could use a bit of work. They’re wide enough for the pro, and flexible enough I’m pretty sure they won’t get torn off when I’m off-road. The only thing I wish is that the screws were black rather than silver.

Looks great! Question: how flexible are they? Can they bend kind-off all the way up? (I'll be doing some offroading and I want them to flex so they don't break)

Getting mine installed tomorrow, I hope this fixes everything kicking up on the side doors. Got my car detailed and for 3 days I've had to take a microfiber cloth and wipe down the sides from the tire shine kicking up across the entire front and back doors.

current OEM mudflaps are not very flexible

my '99 has them, and they are very flexible...can scuff rocks and bounce
back, they just bend and don't rip out, they are basically rubber and not
plastic. current ones, stiff plastic...might bend or bounce back or more likely, rip
out the pop rivets/screws

like on the current RAV4, it is a factory option and some have 'em and
some don't and (to me) it doesn't make sense that some high
trims won't have 'em, and lower trims will have 'em.

imho
definitely need aftermarket like Rally Armor if you want mudflaps and also plan on
a little rocky offroad steppin, 'cuz when you walk down steps or off rocks,
your flap will smash up and you want something flexible

@127.0.0.1 is correct, they are fairly rigid. That said, they are relatively short and very close to the tire, so at least that makes them less likely to get in the way.

Very flexible, they can bend really far. I'm not worried about them getting bent/broken off (now caught and torn off, well, that's always a risk.

The Rally Armor ones are super flexible, I had mine off trail not sure if they scrapped but I'm pretty sure they can go 90 degrees without breaking.
