Just picked up my Everest ORP yesterday, and so far managed to quiet all the annoyances I have with it via the dash settings or Carista.

Except the automatic rear hatch warning beeps, which I‘ve learned can’t be disabled.

I’m often needing to load up my camping gear early in the morning to get out to photo locations, and really would like to avoid waking up other campers around me when doing so at the crack of dawn. In lieu of being able to disable the warning beeping when opening and closing the hatch, can we just remove or disable the speaker used for it?

Mine doesn't beep. Is it just on the motorized ones or something?

Some can be turned off or toned down, except the "start operation" one. See page 644 in the manual. I understand your point (and wish they gave an easy option) but I'd think a single or few beeps would not be a big problem.

Mine beeps maybe5 times if I get out to open a gate (or whatever) and shut (or almost shut) my door. No idea what it even means, the only thing I can think of is to tell me the system is on (not as obvious with the hybrid when the engine is not running) but that, to me, is useless. That beep is really loud. Do you know anything about that, or how to kill that one?

To turn off the 5 beeps your Toyota 4Runner makes when you close the door (these beeps typically happen as a door close or lock feedback sound), follow these steps using your vehicle's infotainment system:

  1. On your 4Runner, press the "Menu" button on the infotainment screen.
  2. Go to "Setup."
  3. Select "Vehicle."
  4. Choose "Vehicle Customization."
  5. Select "Door Lock Settings."
  6. Scroll down to "Lock/Unlock Feedback Tone" or "Feedback Tone."
  7. Adjust the setting to zero to turn off the beep sound completely.
This will disable the beep sound when you lock or unlock the vehicle, which generally also affects door close beeps if related to locking actions. You can also adjust the volume of the beep here if you want it quieter instead of off.

Yes, it’s just the motorized ones to warn you it’s going up or down.

I am also wondering how to turn off the warning sound in motorized rear hatch. I can turn off rest of the locking and unlocking sounds but not the warning sound

There's no way to turn it off sadly. The best I can tell the piezo that emits that beep is behind the rear bumper, so I haven't had a chance to get to it to remove it yet. Maybe one snowy day soon I'll get motivated and see if I can find that bugger. And the one in the front, I'd love to remove both those annoyances one day :)

Workaround:

Bump the window down an inch. The hatch will only operate manually if the window isn't fully closed, and it doesn't beep.

Fair warning though, it's not easy to close manually LOL

Althought I am not normally a fan of things that cannot be disabled/customized, this particular one does make more sense than most. Something large and heavy that starts moving without any warning could be a problem. I know I adjusted the volume of my door lock/unlock lower, so I can easily hear it when I activate it, but it is pretty quiet. I do not recall if it adjusted the hatch start warning, but it seems to me that it is not terribly loud.

If I could silence the truly useless "back seat reminder" though I would be happy (yes, I disabled it in the options but it persists--the very loud 8-beep useless warning). If it actually detected and warned about a living thing in the back seat I would be OK with it, but it does not.

I was wondering if that was the case, as I was trying to operate the hatch a while ago and it would not go. I cannot imagine any logical reason for an open window to disable the hatch opening/closing.

PSA: there’s another thread where some fine person explained how to at least lower the volume on the rear cargo area door beeps (PBD - Power Back Door) ….heres a pic of the thread and the solution to lower volume in case anyone else hadn’t figured it out yet.
