Lift gate light

I've noticed that the lift gate light that is tucked in near the opening switch over the license plate stays on for awhile after I park and walk away. Not sure what purpose it serves, unless it is for unhooking a trailer or something. Has anyone read up on this in the manual?

Hey Bernie. There is a switch for it on the left side of the dash, by the Pro light bar switch. It can be toggled on, to stay on, off and on like the map lights.My knee has hit it a few times toggling to the always on setting. Maybe that happened? Hope that makes sense!

do you mean a trailer hitch light, or the license plate lights ?
trailer hitch light is a separate piece and has it's own switch

That may be it. I turned that switch on because I thought it was for the optional lights in the cargo area.
