Largest size spare tire fit in undermount carrier?

Anyone fit a larger size spare in the undermount cradle? If yes, what size? I’m running 285/70/R18 and haven’t swapped spare yet.

There’s a few spots that would limit max size and likely a couple mods required (I.e. small welded bracket that hangs down to stop potential shifting).

TRD ORP with TRD wheel upgrade and 285/70/18 K03’s.

Fit a BFG K03 285/70/18 in the cradle. Actual tire measurement is 33.7”. The two brackets that are closer to the rear wheels had to be removed, but it’s solidly in place.

On a video in this thread they have a LC with 35s and modified the spare to hold it. Curious to see if anyone here will try mounting a 35

I fit my 275/70r18 Nitto Terra Grappler G3 easily in the spare area. No mods & fits nice and snug like the OEM tire. This is a 33.1” tire.

I'm glad to hear this, as I was trying to put 295/70R17's on and I was worried about them being 33.26" so hopefully this'll work.

I personally don't think it would fit on a 4runner. I'm just about to post some pics on this thread and you'll see there's about 1/4" of space remaining with a 33.7" up snug against the hitch. A true 34 (including the Wildpeak AT4W 285/70/18) would be up against the suspension bar running side to side just in front of the spare so a 35 just wouldn't have the space from looking at my setup. Or you'd have to jam a delated tire up against a bar that has the ability to move (assuming all models have the suspension bar running side to side just in front of the spare).

Very nice. I might consider bumping up to 285 when I need to replace my tires. Good to see the spare fits!

They are E.
On fitting it in...not done without some mods to the brackets at the front of the spare, so you'd have to be prepared for that.
But the 285/70/18 sure does look good. And I have more risk of tire damage in remote fire road areas than I do of dragging a lower hanging spare doing more intense off-roading, so for me it I'd rather have the full size spare mounted under.

Looks good. I haven’t dropped my ORP spare yet to mount a matching 275/70/18. Is it true the spare is a matching 5th ORP wheel?

Spare wheel was same as original wheels on mine.
