HOW TO DEFEAT BACKUP SENSORS?

Needed to pick up an assembled grill, so I put my Harbor Freight tray on the back hitch. Long story short, put unassembled box in tray. When I tried to back into driveway WHAM BRAKE! Took 5 mins, blocking the road, to find the setting to shut it off. I've read on later 5th Gen 4R or 6th Gen Taco theres a dash button.

1. Can a dash switch be mounted?
2. Is there a dummy plug to make it think theres a trailer attached?

Go into your settings and first disable PKSB. That should stay off even if you turn the car on and off. Then I believe you need to disable RCD. There are some others you could turn off but once you restart the car they default to being on. The two above should remain dis-abled. That should get rid of the brake slam and the audible sounds when backing up.

Disable Parking Support Brake (PKSB) via the Multi-information Display (MID). Worth looking up in manual so you get comfortable with how to adjust the safety features (I don't think Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) comes into play in this scenario, but it might.).
Yours is a classic issue for anyone who uses a hitch rack for anything (bikes, etc.)

I have a rear tire swing out mounted on my hitch, so this is an issue I am all too familiar with.

This is redundant. You don't have to disable anything. What you do is tell the system you're towing a trailer & camper and and approx weight. It will automatically disable rear sensors. When finished, remove the trailer & sensors will turn back on automatically.

Yes via the Steering wheel's control, under Settings.

Here's the info in the manual. I have the PDF file on my phone.

Adding a trailer will disable all rear Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 functions.

exactly ...another reason I wanted an SR5.

My problem with disabling PKSB is that often it isn't able to be quickly reenabled. I'll turn it on when I have the swing-away and rack and that seems fine. But the first challenge is that the dash will continually ask me if I have a trailer connected. If I select yes, it doesn't seem to accept that and will keep asking. If I say no, it doesn't seem to accept that and will keep asking. And this happens about every 30 seconds while driving. I can hit the back arrow to make it disappear but it keeps coming back. I can just ignore it, but then it won't display navigation aids in the center of the display. And then when I remove the swing-away and rack, I can go back to where I disabled the PKSB it often won't allow me to reengage it. Sure, I can leave it off, but if I have nothing behind the vehicle then I'd rather all the safety features be engaged. Overall it's an unnecessary complicated system that is extremely buggy. A simple button on the dash could say "Cargo Rack" or "Bike Rack" or something like that and solve everyone's frustrations.

Same issue for me a while back. Easy fix as described above with PKSB. Took me a while to realize that, but it works flawlessly now for my bike rack. Interesting note,... on my Trailhunter PKSB stays defeated until I deselect the "off" feature, regardless of ignition on/off. Guess this is a feature of the Trailhunter and not on some others.

Is the dash light supposed to stay on after you turn it off or is there something else I"m missing on it?

Yes. It appears to remain on in orange to remind you that it is off (??).... And every 15 minutes or so, you are reminded that it is off in the Info Center.
