so anyone know how easy it would be to steal the front radar assembly off the new 4runner?

i think this will be the new tailgate/catalytic converter item for ease of theft. and i mean its easier to steal in 2-3 mins vs getting under the vehicle to steal a catalytic converter and the cost is way more, $2000-$3000 for a replacement unit for 3 mins of work vs a catalytic converter cost of around $300 to $2500.

thoughts ???

what will anyone do with a stolen front radar transceiver ?

it doesn't have any precious metals in any significant amount
like a catalytic converter has

after spending caloric energy to melt it down you'd
have 25-75 cents of gold and 15 cents of copper there
and a toxic pile of ash. it would cost more to process
that gold and copper to make use of it in ingots

aside from that, do you mean keep it intact and sell as an
used part for people replacing broken ones ? exactly where
is the market for that ?

There is not exactly a market for used Toyota radars right? You should be more worried about your wheels or interior items. Start to worry if you see theft rings hitting dealerships for all their radars.

I guess this is news ?

National Auto Body workers say thieves could get up to $150 bucks for reselling the part.

well, the 4runner and every other Toyota is as vulnerable as that [any other] car...it's right there in front and you only need to rip the plastic to grab it. trivial for someone with shears

and i guess there are radar sensor guards available

my thoughts are you need a bodyshop willing to fence 4runner sensors and 4runners are kinda rare in the scheme of things.

CRV and RAV4 are the most sold vehicles (F-150 steps to 2nd place behind RAV4 in 2025) so perhaps a market for CRV and RAV4 sensors but I doubt 4runner will be a target.

well for any oem, they are going to use the same sensor across multiple models, not just for 1

only if it's the same TSS version, but yeah,
multiple models using TSS 3.0 for 2025/26 and
the sensor is rectangular and not the toyota logo sensor
