I can see and feel the lane tracing engage when I have cruise control turned on. But is there a way to have LTA working when you don't have cruise control turned on? I can the see the benefit of having LTA working even when you aren't on cruise. I have a Honda that allows that (they call it Lane Keeping Assist) and it can be used together with cruise or independently by itself.

I do have to say the Toyota dynamic cruise control is a much smoother experience than the Honda version. More of a gentle easing off of the throttle when you approach a slower vehicle and then it rolls into the throttle smoothly once you have open road in front of you again.

No takers? I took a small trip this weekend and had the chance to mess around a little more and I don't think the lane tracing can be used with the cruise isn't turned on.

I believe you are correct. Look in your owner's manual, page 271. That the way I read it.

common sense says you shouldnt need LTA when you are not using CC. it assumes you are in a city environment since you have to many variables to contend with in a low speed environment.

plus the fact that city road markers as not maintained as well as highway roads/interstates. its easier to track interstate road markers or higher speed sections of road since the road markers rarely change patterns.

if the camera looking at this for miles upon miles its easier to do LTA than (plus the radar CC is using distance to a vehicle in front to maintain gaps)

you kinda get the idea. the variability of city roads lane markings is just to much to program currently vs pretty much standard lane markings on highways and the non changing aspect of highway markings.

I never use cruise or LTA in a city environment. But sometimes I just want the lane tracking even if I don't have cruise control turned on. I commute 127 miles a day for work and any safety advantage I can gain is a plus in the long run. I've put 263K miles on my daily driver so far and being able to have lane tracking turned on (it activates at 47mph and up) is extremely helpful. Oh well...still love the 4R!
