I purchased a full front XPEL PPF and the 3m door cups for my 4runner I received in late may from my dealer. In about a month 2 of the 3m door cups were lifting and the hood and the fenders of the xpel started to peel.

I brought it in to be fixed under warranty. The first time in they fixed the door cups and tried to fix the fender by cutting out xpel which looked bad and still had many areas that were starting to peel.

They agreed to redo the xpel on the hood and fenders and the new xpel PPF has many blemishes and the underside of the hood has bubbles which will probably peal over to the top side like it did last time. The service department is saying the blemishes will go away with sun exposure, the sales department is saying it will need to be redone again. Too me the reinstall looks worse than the initial installation.

For the people who had XPEL PPF applied I was wondering.

1. How does your PPF look under your hood?
2. Have you experienced bubbles and imperfections going away with sun exposure?

Thanks in advance, for your responses.

Take plenty of pictures and its progression.
I DIYed some wraps before, ik not an expert, but that corner doesnt even look intact… dust and water will get in there and undo the wrap slowly…

Your title is misleading. It’s dealer installed? I do not opt for anything like that installed by a dealer. The wife’s Camry came with dealer installed tint. It was shot in 3 years. The back window was bubbled and no tint shop wanted to remove it because it was too labor intensive. I had to remove the side trim and entire package tray trim to remove the tint. All in, it was about 5 hours of work.

When it comes to ppf it’s equally important if not more for the installer to be an expert. Dealers most likely don’t have expert installers.

I was lucky enough to have an honest salesmen tell me to have the PPF done through an outside company. Yours doesn’t look that bad yet but you may want to take it to an auto aesthetic specialist and have them look at that. If you happen to be in Arizona, AZ Auto Aesthetics did a great job on mine.

was that a 3rd party PPF or the oem PPF ?

i am pretty sure toyota doesnt use xpel for ppf, they have their own ppf stuff which is way thicker than name brand xpel.

if your ppf doesnt have a toyota logo on the individual pieces then its a 3rd party ppf.

and personally i wouldnt let a dealer install 3rd party ppf since toyota installs the oem ppf at the port and not at the dealer.

if you look on your window sticker, it should be listed as option code "3P" and only covers 1/8 of the hood from the leading edge, forward facing front fenders, door cups, and forward facing parts of the mirrors

It is xpel ppf. The dealer has a 3rd party install it. I had the entire hood done as I don't like the line in the hood. I checked other vehicles they had done and they looked good. With the help of my sales person they agreed to redo it again. My door cups which were toyota ppf not xpel lifted as well. That has been fixed.

Mine looks pretty good. I took some pictures so you can compare. I did find one spot that is lifting but I think they just need to cut the excess off. I circled it in blue, it just looks like a dirty part of the hood but it’s a small piece of film hanging off.

great to hear the dealer resolved your issue with the 3rd party PPF

just a note for others, xpel is NOT toyota oem PPF. that is something a dealer contracts out to a 3rd party company/product so it wont fall under any type of toyota warranty issue.
