Ok I found a fix.

1 Set the Knob switch to parking lights. The one right after Auto
2. In the infotainment screen go to your Toyota menu (not your android auto or carplay)
3. Navigate to Settings, Vehicle Customization, Lights
4. In the Lights menu, you'll see "Daytime running lights". Turn this off. Yes off, menu is on by default.

After turning car off then back on, it may auto back to "on" but change the menu off one more time and it should be permanent.
@AdFour , thanks for this procedure. I'm going to have to check mine out.

If we change the setting from "on" to "off", wondering if this will not activate the drl in auto mode.

Must be a reason why "on" is the default.

I will try it either way during the break.

Please let us know your findings. I'd like to know if this is consistent across others.
In regards to the "on" vs "off" for [daytime running lights], I'm not sure. Until I turned it off, Ive never had DRL working properly. I generally don't have mine on Auto.
