I'm looking to install a front facing Dash cam in TRD Pro. I'm leaning more towards the FITCAMX for the OEM fitment and ease of installation, OEM is a bit more pricey for my taste. I also came across Mangoal dash which looks similar to the FITCAMX.

Has anyone used this dashcam before? What did you think of it? Looks like the it has GPS where it can show the location of the recording unlike FITCAMX.

Tons of owners of 6th Gen 4Runner own & use the FitcamX, including me. Easy to install. I also wired & rear cam. Mount it in the rear, passenger side, on the headliner bolt.

FitcamX has its own app & use wifi for you to live view & download footage to your phone. Make sure to upgrade the microSD memory card to a 128GB or higher for longer history. Also, use High Endurance memory card for reliability.

How much is an OEM one?
as a pio option its $475 i think, dealer installed will be higher, and parts dept cost who knows.

you can get 3rd party cams for way cheaper and bette features than the oem version.

i picked up my viofo a329s (front only) for $330 shipped from viofo website

good thing about viofo, you can add a rear cam later since they sell the rear cam kit seperately.

or you can get the front/rear kit for $400

and the front/rear/cabin for $470

Just go with fitcamx. 4k front (superior to OEM and mangoal). Plug and play with mirror OEM plug. Exact fitment.

I know what it costs via PIO, I just was wondering if anybody knew off-hand how much they are from a dealer to DIY. I have one (came via PIO) and immediately replaced it with a Viofo. I was going to sell my Toyota one if it's worth the trouble LOL

i would do some parts lookups via toyota dealers to get a rough idea and adjust your selling price from there for a used one.

this is what i pulled from sparks parts

lotta money for the same sensor, image quality, features
as cams less than half the price. probably not a mistake to
buy it. it has a unique filesystem so no need to format SD card
at regular intervals

However, with the JDR filesystem you will never be able to pop the sdcard
out and quicky view video or events, or toss in <any> phone and view events
if you are in a crash and trying to manage yourself...
you will need a proprietary way to view files. I know when i was in a wreck
once I told the cops hey just go grab the sdcard in my dashcam and download it.
easy peasy. not so easy with JDR files. to give to police for evidence you will
likely need to convert them to mp3/mp4

  • Data Protection: Unlike traditional systems (MP4, AVI) that create files after recording, JDR pre-allocates space, allowing for recording to be saved up to 0.001 seconds before power is lost.
  • Preventing Corruption: By "filling" pre-existing files rather than creating new ones, JDR drastically reduces data loss risks.
  • Proprietary Nature: JDR files are proprietary and usually cannot be played on standard media players; they require specialized software, such as the IROAD WiFi PC viewer or GNET viewer, to be viewed and exported.

so, it's both good and a hassle I reckon. if you need to submit files to law enforcement it may get complicated they may not allow any file that need conversion or a link to a program to view it or allow any modification or conversion. so ...I'd rather stick with more common formats built into everything, vs a format built into a narrow range of devices
