Best Daily / Mall Crawl tires

Hello,

I just purchased some Method 703's in a +35 offset.
Looking for the best daily tire. I don't do much off roading. I do go to the snow and light trails.

Was looking at the Toyo AT3 in a 35x12.50/17 in a C load is this tire way to massive for this vehicle would a 285/75/17 be more suitable?

I keep going back and forth and can't find the right tire to pull the trigger on.

I'm not a tire expert, but I'm in a similar boat as you in that I am mostly highway, and rare off-road (beach, mostly).

When the time comes to swap tires (not in any rush right now), I'm planning to run Cooper Road+Trail in 265/70/17 on the stock SR5 wheels

From what I've read, I think this tire should be a great pick for my use case

Cooper Road+Trail is what you are looking for. Works great on the Uhwarrie 4X4 trails and OBX sand. I’m a city dweller now but like to get it dirty occasionally. Very quiet tire. Got mine for $250/ea at Sam’s Club (275/60/20).

You'd want an SL-load tires.

Don't temp for C or E. They will be rough when finding mall's parking lots & speed bumps since they're thicker with 6 & 10-ply.

Mine is a city dweller as well. I went with the Pirelli Scorpion AS 3 Plus. Smooth riding, not XL or C/E load rating tire and no drone or tire noise even on concrete ashighway speeds. Not the best looking tire, but in the 265/70R17 size I think it's the best city option that fits on stock rim with no mods.

Tried the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 first, only made it 800 miles before I removed them for the Pirelli. Way too much secondary movement on the Defender, plus much harsher overall (as expected as a highway all season vs touring and carried the XL rating). Not as good as the OG Defender LTX.

Continental TerrainContact A/T — probably my #1 if daily tire really is priority #1.

Toyo Open Country A/T III: perfectly sensible if you already like it. Good road-oriented balance while being a little more conventional/aggressive A/T.

Falken WildPeak A/T4W: I'd move here if snow and trail performance matter more to you.

Nokian Outpost nAT: better in the snow, still good on road behavior.

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T: if you want to prioritize off-road driving.


And I'd be looking hard at 285/70R17 SL over a C, XL, or E. Toyo has a P285/70R17 117T Open Country A/T III. The MT and Nokian tires are particularly light, too.

I could have mall crawled and done light fire roads all day long in my stock 265/70 r18 Toyo Open Country AT3s SL load. My use case has me running into some rocks and washboard and off camber and heavier stone where I am airing done and sidewalls are exposed to stuff so I upgraded to a D load KO3. You will be perfectly fine with an SL load. And for the love of God don’t get 35s unless you are just doing it for looks and will live with the consequences (for which you’ll get no benefit - basically clearance for much tougher trails you don’t plan on doing). Stick with 265/70 r18 or maybe 275/70 or 75 r17 or 18.
