I just realized that you can see the doors metal from the inside of the vehicle. I don’t think i’ve ever noticed it in any other car, but now notice it on the 4runner. Never had a 4Runner before, is this standard?

Common on many vehicles, but only seen from the back seat.

I've owned various Rover products over time that were finished like this or no trim at all. Pretty common in the market segment.
