When I was test driving LC's last year in August at several dealerships only one dealership actually had MSRP pricing and even then only for 1958's. All other dealers insisted on Markups between 3k and 5k plus dealer added features.
They rather had me walk away than lowering the price. At that time there were already quite a number of LC premium vehicles on the dealer lots that were not reserved to specific buyers. They still insisted on markups and I'm sure they eventually found customers that paid.

The LC is positioned as a premium vehicle so I guess the customer base is more willing to pay. The 4 Runner could be different because the customer base maybe is more utilitarian, pragmatic and off road oriented. So there is a chance that most customers do not pay markups but I guess we will see.

I have this maybe naive hope that the 4Runner will drive down LC prices. I hope that up go 10% discounts are possible when a lot of people decide to get a 4Runner over a LC. I would normally also prefer a 4Runner if it had a full time AWD in the off road trims. If I want Full time AWD I have to choose between a limited or a LC and in that case the LC is the better deal if you can get 5% or more off MSRP.

Yeah I also like a rear wheel drive feel. However when I have my girlfriend or other people drive the car they won’t know or care that the 4high is binding on paved roads. The full time AWD seems the better option in those cases.

Yup. I hear you. However, my 22 year old has been driving my 07 SR5 for seven years and she can figure it out.

thats because they are asking 57000 for a car with manual cloth seats…

im guessing most consumers feel like if they are paying 57k they should get more than what they are getting with the 1958s

Just looking at the price sheets for the 4 vehicles on this page. Rough math....all of them have between $2,000-$2,500 of port installed options and factory installed options. And that's actually lower than some others that I've seen. I know it's just part of the game/process, but I don't really want to pay $420 for cross bars or stupid money for screen protectors and USB cables, etc... Guess you just gotta add at least 2 grand, probably more, to your cost.

The TRD off road premium that TN Vols posted has actually only ~700 dollar in BS additions. The rest (Moonroof, Tow tech package, door edge guards and Mudguards) are either essential or at least useful enough. But yes, if you don't want any of those you will have to wait quite some time until models without them show up or prices can be negotiated. Toyota does the same with the LC's and unfortunately there they have additions that are a no-go like 20" allow wheels for 1300 or steps for 950 that actually make the car worse.
