Exactly. These people are either old and or just don’t understand the process. The order banks meaning what the dealers (and distributors) use. While you cannot order a vehicle directly from toyota, the dealer can potentially help you identify a build sufficiently upstream to avoid a bunch of unwanted distributor accessory add ons. With minimal MY changes expected, I just want to check colors and wheels mainly ahead of a MY 27 purchase.
Exactly. Again let say it over and over again. You can not just walk into a dealer and order what you want. Now PIO and DIO are not parts of the manufacture process. There are actually more than 300 different factory configurations for 4runner currently (trim, color, interior, engine, drive train, other). The dealer and distributor orders help them identify the most popular combinations. While individuals cannot order their exact vehicle with a vin number, the American consumer ultimately does dictate what is built based on what they want and buy.
If that is the case than are you telling me most American only can afford SR5 but they can just walk into the dealer and asking for that SR5 equipped with Trail Hunter or PRO products? Good luck. You have a better chance to see the pope at the Vatican for dinner.
