Upgraded 18 inch black rims, wrong spare tire, and cleaning wheel wells/liners

Wondering if it normal to have not gotten my spare wheel upgraded to the 18inch black alloy’s when optioning for them and the full size spare.

dropped my spare as i was cleaning the whole car and realized its the wrong wheel lol

also, is anybody removing the wheel liner and cleaning behind there? figured its ok to just leave the dirt and crud caked on there as long as im cleaning all parts of the frame/chassis and body flares…the backside of my wheel liners are disgusting…

What does “service the spare tire hoist” entail… just lowering it and removing any debris? Or we slapping wd40 here or something

Exactly. I usually use grease, sometimes a spray preservative. It depends on the type of assembly/hoist.

Yes if you bought A pro or a trailhunter they will match. Same if he OR/ORP you got 5 matching from factory and then got 4 from port or dealership. if you don’t get the upgraded wheels all 5 match. Is is kind if BS it’s only 4 yes. Did it specify that yes.

I'm going to guess anyone who has 5 paid an extra $300+ for the fifth one. Probably was listed on dealer added sheet. Or they negotiated it but if they didn't know I'm guessing it was paid for.

Yeah... it's dumb and I was in the same situation as you. One of the features of the off-roady trims (OR, Pro, TH) is that you get a matching spare wheel/tire. By only replacing 4 with the upgraded wheels, you're left with a now-unmatching regular TRD-OR wheel. The dealer probably won't be able to help you, unless you buy a wheel from them.

For myself, as soon as the "40% off TRD parts" offer went live, I picked up a 5th wheel (about $170 with the discount), and had my dealer swap it out (cost of mounting/balancing one tire). I haven't done it yet, but I plan to sell the other wheel to recoup some cost.

Edit: I don't know if Toyota does that TRD offer every year, but this last one happened in March.

Seeing old forums say silicone spray is the way to go (and can use these on the rubber door seals) thanks for tip, ordering some now.

to be honest, probably just going to keep this as a true spare tucked away, never rotate it in, and hope it doesnt dry rot by cleaning it and rolling it around a bit haha

Yeah figured the same… atleast its a full size, not really trying to spend a couple hundred for an upgraded spare wheel because all 4 of mine are shot to shit from offroading already.

I don't think silicone spray is the right product for this use. I suggest a grease that doesn't wash out easily like TRC 880 Crown & Chassis or Paragon 3000 Lithium (non-moly) greases, but there are many others that would work. Another solution is any of the underbody corrosion preventers like Krown, Woolwax, FluidFilm, etc. You don't need a lot of whatever you use.

I used Paragon 3000 on the tire hoist and hitch receiver on my 2018 Ram 2500 when I got it in 2020. Receiver comes out easily to this day and the spare tire came down easy last summer when I got a flat and I live in Maine.
