I searched for a Toyota OEM battery for the 4R and got a "discount price" of $1,158.77. Really!!! I saw this at a few online Toyota dealers!

Calling a few dealer parts department got me a price of $207.36. This was for a Toyota OEM Trustart battery. The part numbers do not match the original battery installed.

My battery is Made in Japan by Yuasa (known good battery). It's got a nice sight on top to check battery fluid level. However, when looking for the same battery, I could only find the Truestart at dealers. Calling around and got a price of $207.36 not the almost $1200 quoted online.

I know its too early to replace the battery, I usually do it proactively at about 4 years but, I'd like to know if the original Yuasa battery is available in the USA or do they only have Mexico/USA made batteries labelled as Toyota?

If anyone has replaced their battery, what did you choose? I don;t have aftermarket accessories, no off-road use but do live in a climate that gets hot and cold.

In the US, 12v car batteries are made by like 2 companies.

Imo Sam's club has the best warranty and pricing on car batteries, I believe they're branded as Duracell and made by East Penn.

I dunno, toyota charges these prices for truestarts
2025 4runner sr5 is Group 24F

As far as replacements, I use truestarts 'cuz they last a long freakin time in my experience

and... even though size is group 24F, sometimes that 'other' 24F won't fit properly. I don't know if it is toyota fudging battery dimensions or 3rd party fudging, but on my Tacoma, I got a different battery but correct group size, and I had to bend the battery holding arm to make it fit. toyota OEM truestart would fit right in no issue.

also you can't order these online toyota does not ship an empty battery and acid in bottles, and definitely cannot ship an active lead-acid battery.

Toyota 12v Truestarts are 24 mo replacement warranty with an 84 month pro rata :

TrueStart batteries are warranted as free exchange from the date of purchase for 24 months, regardless of mileage, or the remainder of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, whichever provides greater coverage, and on a prorated basis thereafter for up to 84 months. Proration is for the battery only (based on MSRP) and excludes applicable taxes, labor for installation and towing.

Apparently these are made in North America by Exide.

The East Penn at Sam's Club has a 36mo replacement warranty, and you get an AGM one for $199.

so glad SR5 doesn't have stop/start so can use the cheapest type battery.

non-hybrid stop/start systems are hard on batteries if left enabled

[hybrid stopping and starting is a different animal altogether and really doesn't exist]

Thought I would give an update on my 4Runner platinum model with iforce max engine. After another look at the battery (no visible manufacturer name) by rocking the rear end of the 4r hard I could see the water level in the battery.. What I thought was the water level were the plates inside different height's? ..Ok water level ok. Now Fluke volt Meter reading 12.1 volts! To me that's low right! I now think this is a normal reading because the engine does not have a standard alternator with voltage regulator to charge 12 volts battery. The hybrid system is used to keep the 12 volt battery charged. It's all done electronically and it's quite possible that the charge rate could be closer to 12 volts then standard alternators trying to maintain 12.5 to 12.9 volts. I will be periodically checking it now and have cancelled my appointment with Toyota dealer tomorrow.

Costco is a great option, though their warranty is not quite as good as Sam's Club.

Costco is just pro rated replacement vs Sam's 3yr.
