Hello everyone. I have had my 2025 4Runner ORP iForce Max for a little over three weeks now.
Perplexed as to the actual vs stated fuel tank capacity. 19 gallons = 71.92 L (Canadian here).
Filled up the tank this morning with 5km of gas remaining on the display. So there should have been at bare minimum 2.8 gallons (10.6 L) left in the reserve. So wondering how I was able to put 72.25 L (19.08 g) in the tank this morning. That math indicates I now have over 82 L (21.66 gallons) in my truck. What am I missing here?
Any insight would be appreciated. Please and thanks.

The pump was “fixed”? I don’t have a clue what are the regulations in Canada…

a bunch of Toyotas
time to get a 5 gallon can
accurately measure 5 gallons of water and put in the can
[you can't trust the can measuring lines unless it is scientific supply]

and mark a line carefully where 5 gallons is
-----
dump it out, dry it out
(to get the remaining water out toss in a few ounces of
isopropyl alcohol and swish it around, then dump it. water
will be 99.999% gone)
now go back to that same pump
and now pump exactly 5 gallons in where the meter says 5 gallons

are you getting ripped off ?

(use liters or gallons, but whatever works for accuracy)

---------------------------
failing that
there is always air space in the tank that is usually not reachable,
and pump handle auto shutoff varies between pumps sometimes

if I wanted to risk upsetting my evap system, I could pump 1.2 gallons
more into my 4runner if I go past auto stop and keep pumping until
I see it at the top of the fuel intake neck. I've done 1 gallon extra once in
my 2025 4runner.

my '99 I've done it a bunch and can always go 1.2 gallons
further than recommended. [done as one-offs it is not a habit...]
I do plenty of normal fillups to recover from any evap flooding.

Pump might be the issue. To my knowledge, I have never come across legit station pumps that are off. This was at ESSO which is well regarded. When I fill up my motor boat cans i get exactly 25L. But yes I'll try the line method. Bizarre.

tank holds 19 gals
effective gas that can be used is roughly 16 gals (DTE gauge/miles to empty)

roughly 10-20% of a tank size is reserved for idiots that like to run the tank dry and end up burning up your fuel pump (if done repeatedly) or running out of gas.

this is standard procedure not just for toyota but for most auto brands (the fuel keeps the fuel pump cool and acts as a lubricant)

and no you cannot get a fuel pump replaced under warranty if you repeatedly run you tank dry and burn up the fuel pump.

its also stated in the owners manual to not run your tank to zero.

Ok, yeah, I get that.. That said, then I would have only gobbled up 16 gals when the gauge stated 5km to empty, meaning the reserve had not been touched yet. So why was I able to put in over 19 gals when filling up.

then it would be a fault of the of pump. when was the last time that pump was certified? or do you have pump certifications in loonie land :)

but i am not sure what the rules are in canuck land is for gas tank reporting. you folks up there have weird rules and configs we dont have across the rednek line :)

technically its stated that you shouldnt be able to put more than 72 L into a canuck 4runner. anymore than that you risk ruining the charcoal canister and filling up the neck.

Filled the tank until the nozzle fill lock disengaged. Canada is subject to Federal and provincial standards. Measurement Canada, TSSA (LFHC), Environmental and Climate Change Canada. Probably not much different than south of the border. I will definitely go back today to check the cert log tag. and next fill up check on a different pump and a different station.

yeah keep a log of your fill ups and try to fill up consistently the same. the wife and i try to refill at 1/2 tank if we can. not only for winters in ND (for safety) but that way i know the gas bill wont be outrageous.

the wifes tundra is usually around $45 dollars for 1/2 tank.

mine has been around $35 for 1/2 tank.

if it starts getting to high from the norm, then i know a pump is not pumping correctly and over charging.

also i keep track using fuelly.com with an app on my phone i have a link in my sig to my stats.

maybe....just maybe... the 5km on the display means you are actually.... empty and have already used up ur reserve???

EDIT: Reserve usually comes on when the low fuel light is on, not how many km left.

the display will show zero once you get into the reserve. but that a moving target since the DTE display varies from tank to tank since it recomputes based on previous tank numbers.

Well in that case, the fuel pump needs to be checked.
With how much of a shitshow Canada is right now, I am not suprised they are ripping customers off this way.

Saw a video another day at PetroCanada (one of the major gas stantion brands in Canada) that the digits on the screen keept going with no input to the gun (the fuel gun is out of the tank with lever at off position).
