This was a mix of city and highways, going through the drive thru, etc. I get 18-ish if I just stay in my neighborhood, and 20+ if I spend any time on the highway. Cruise control all the time, this was with three adults and their camping gear in the car, and I also have a freezer in the back. Fwiw, I put my air dam back on.

I would be curious to see the results on pen and paper the old fashioned way. Noticed quite early that when doing it with the actual miles like we did in the old days those displays in the 4Runner are not all that accurate. My 4Runner Trailhunter claims that I'm getting 21 when in fact I'm really only getting 15. I mentioned this to the dealer and they told me those aren't all that accurate.

Just rolled 6k miles and still around 22.5 to 23.5 mixed driving. On my '25 Tacoma Hybrid I only get 19.5-20 but I lifted it a little and did E rated 275/70/18's.

I've been hovering 21.5 on the last 4 tanks at least. All mostly the same routine mix driving. I was sitting @ 22.4 on the last tank w/ 1/4 tank left, but had to do a "speedy" drive across town and it dropped to the usual 21.5.
TH here @ 10600 miles in ECO mode mostly.

We're averaging 22.08 over 4962 miles. I can manage 26+mpg on the highway anywhere between 70-75mph. How are you not?

How are you getting 21mpg going downhill? I get 26+ on the flats...

No clue. It’s about 14 miles to and from work. 3 miles of which is mountain. 11 miles is flat. The trip odometer says 14 mpg home. 21 mpg to work. Eco mode.

I get that our hybrid motor and drivetrain are geared for power and torque. That makes sense in lower gears for offroad. But… I would think they would make it similar to their Highlander or sienna in higher gears to conserve fuel.

I’m now over 19 mpg average and have hit 22 briefly several times. I’m rarely over 70 Hwy and mostly lazy speeds around town. I leave adrenaline driving for the Porsche.

Hi I have TRD Pro 4-cylinder turbo hybrid 1,460 miles and average about 20.3 mostly freeway driving @78 to 83 miles an hour.

Now that I've run several tanks with bigger tires I'm ready to summarize my data.

Bottom line:
Before: TRD ORP: OEM wheels/tires/air dam; normal mode; 80% hgwy (by distance); 39# pressure (except offroad); 93 Octane: 22.3 MPG. (average of 7 Tanks with those conditions)
After: TRD ORP: TRD Pro wheels (18"x8.5"); 285/70R18 Toyo A/T III; no air dam (rubs); normal mode; 80% hgwy; 39# pressure (except off-road); 93 Octane: 18.5 MPG (average of 4 tanks)

This is a substantial difference in range on the 19 gal tank: ~425 vs 350.

A data point: Similar highway trips compared before and after - 3+ MPH better before loss of air dam and bigger (and heavier!) tires. The impact around town (for my 1.8 mile "commute) is MUCH worse. (15-18 MPG vs 12ish MPG).

This is EXACTLY what I've noticed with our 4Runner still stock and my Tacoma with same wheels as you and 275/70/18's. It's made me rethink the upgrades I was going to do to the 4Runner, I think I'm going to stay with what's on there stock and just level it with better 265's now.
