😎 SR5 OEM+ Build on BFG KO3 265/70/17 tires + white lettering (on stock wheels) + TRD OR Off-Road suspension

Been inspired by a lot on here and plan on adding pics along the journey of being a first time 4Runner owner.

Fresh from the dealership

Learned real quick that tint was needed. Went over to TX Tint & PPF in Austin, highly recommend them. Got XPEL XR+, 50 windshield, 15 on sides and 50 all around for uniform look (on top of factory shade).

And the itch hasn’t stopped… so I swapped the Yokohama X-CV’s and got some tires.

BF Goodrich KO3 265/70/17 on the stock SR5 wheels. Swapped the lug nuts to black.

Ended up with C-Rating, I tried the E-Rated for a week and it was too sluggish off the line. After one day of heavy rain, traction control went off causing the rears to swerve, which prompted me to swap.

Right now, I do have the air dam still on — but plan on deleting in future.

Wasn’t sure how I was going to like the white lettering on all black setup, but i’m digging the contrast at the moment.

Looking forward to driving this! Yeehaw!

That looks awesome! Tint makes a big difference, especially on a black car. Congrats on your sweet ride!

Also added a Zekzoop Insulation to the hood. Aside from thermal benefits, I noticed it improved the hood floppiness at highway speeds. Feels more stable with it on, less visual wobble.

After installing the insulation pad:

Easy swap! Plug and play, carefully pop off the front top cover, unbolt the original horn and unlatch the cable. Reverse the order for install.

Be careful when transitioning with the cable, if you let it go — it can go fall to hard to reach spots.

Swapped out the Tokico suspension, springs & struts for both front + rears today. Found a TRD OR set off ebay with 60 miles on them.

It’s actually a huge difference in handling and overall driving experience. Way less rollover and more responsive.

Nice updates! I’d like to update my sr5’s suspension eventually, too, but money is tight.

I remember reading here cv axles on sr5 were less robust than on other trims. Have you considered that as a future upgrade?

Had not thought about it until you mentioned it! Definitely a future upgrade, and I haven't found any options available right now. Please share if there are any or OEM alternatives.

The next thing I'm looking at for suspension are possibly Peak Suspension Summit Kit, or a subtle lift on the front.

From what I understand the SR5 and TRD Trims share similar CV axle part numbers and geometry (aside from a few torque specs). Apparently, there is a larger difference on the angles for Trailhunter as they run Old Man Emu setup and are designed for more articulation.

My current setup has no lift and I'm running 265/70R17's. As far as I understand there would be more concern if I was running larger than 285's with a lift higher than 2.5 inches, and gunning it on the trails.

Open to suggestions, or things I should look out for -- it's awesome learning from you all.

With the sample size of about 1,000 miles, I've been getting 17-21 MPG -- honestly not sure if i'm fully 'broken in' yet and it has been tough to resist my heavy foot. lol

Full throttle on this truck is way too fun.

Lighting upgrades!

Swapped out the cheap bulbs with Lasfit Switchbacks. Significantly brighter and liking the white DRL. Much more reassuring on my night drives, and they do look brighter than ever.

Then the Meso Customs lights arrived, so I had to install them. Here is the interior with stock lights on.

Original map lights, removing this section felt like I was going to lose my fingernails. Be very careful here y’all!

Drilled the holes out for the cables to passthrough.

Upper section all reassembled with the new lights. These things are insanely bright, and I’m enjoying the dual modes.

Red lights are much better to use at night while driving and its great to prevent bugs being attracted to the interior.

Waiting on the Meso Rear Dome lights to ship when they’re available. That way when i open the doors and park, it’ll be uniform.
