I know this has been posted but I can’t find the thread. I have a 1up rack with two bikes, it won’t recognize it as a trailer, if I turn PKSB off I can reverse without braking but it still gives me a constant warning tone in reverse. Any help is appreciated.

You`re putting an obstacle in front of the rear camera. Thats what happens.
I have the same issue. Had to disable the damn brake  The bike rack with no bike, only gets false warnings because the cameras cant see properly.
I`m afraid we`re stuck with it.

An advantage of the SR5 trim is that it does not do that. As commented in other posts, Toyota need to create a "Bike Mode" so it takes one press and no warnings. Easy to do but will probably never be done.

I created a trailer setting that showed it was 3’ long and no trailer brake, hoping that it would think it was that but why doesn’t it think it’s a trailer?

This was super annoying and a little scary when after I loaded three bikes on the back of my 25 4Runner ORP, got to my destination three hours later and tried to reverse into a parking spot. The truck went nuts. Braking like crazy. Alarms like crazy. At first I had no idea what the heck was happening. Then I went through the menus, and after a few minutes figured out what it was and turned that setting off.

I had it off the last month and of course, it keeps showing a warning on the display I have to acknowledge every time I start the truck. SMH

What I don't like about that setting is what if I'm trying to back up in an emergency situation where I don't care if I'm about to ram a car or whatever if I just have to get out of the way. It is all information overload. Toyota has always been one of the worst with the multiple warnings and icons.

But yes, some simple "bike" setting or light weight hitch thing for a quick override until cancelled would be nice!

This is how I’ve been running my dual 1up rack for the last 6000 miles. Works fine except for the constant double negative questions asking if the rack is or isn’t still attached. Happens with bikes on the rack and also without. Just a poor Auto sensing algorithm by Toyota.

Weird. Today after a mountain bike ride my 4Runner flashed a message saying "Trailer Detected Press OK to Confirm". Would having my hitch bike rack as "trailer" in theory override some of these braking and beeping settings?

That’s what I am hoping for!

Trailer settings and warnings only come into play when a trailer harness is plugged in. I think you bike guys need to try rigging a receiver light. Plug it in and just tiewrap to your rack.

Someone else still got the same unpredictable messages with a harness plugged in. The root cause is the auto detection. You can disable this in settings, but it automatically turns back on after each ignition cycle.
