May be a dumb question but will the addition of the sxth element intake void any warranty? Also same for an ott tune, will that void any warranty?
I hear you. I’d encourage you to do your own research, but everything I’ve read indicates your warranty won’t be void as the result of modifications. However, find people who know what they’re doing. Don’t find a guy on Craig’s List to do the work. Stick with skilled professionals.

If you look at the Audi, VW and BMW forums, there are several people who have had engine component warranty voided due to tuned ECUs. Audi scans and will label your car TD1 if it detects ECU manipulation. They can detect if you are running more turbo boost than the factory ECU calls for.
There are some BMW tuners (Dinan) who offer a factory matching warranty if you ECU tune - so that’s a pretty good indication that there could be issues.

You could end up losing engine and drivetrain warranty but the rest of your warranty would probably be fine.

You pretty much have to pay to play so do so at your own risk.

When I was shopping the 1958 was about 54K after discount. Isn’t the SR5 around 45K?

We are talking Hybrid 4Runner vs Hybrid Land Cruiser, Nothing was said about an SR5

Coming from a 5.7 L sequoia that’s pushing close to 400 horsepower I can definitely feel this engine lacking.

That’s Audi, VW and BMW though. Do you see any of that on the Toyota forums? There’s a OTT guy on this forum, so I hope he weighs in. OTT has had zero issues with their tuning. Also, their tunes leave no traces. The dealership won’t know unless you tell them.

That is the same thing they said about the Audi, VW and BMW tunes until the manufacturers caught on and they began scanning for ecu flash count and things like boost requested and boost applied. They also said you could flash back to stock and be undetectable but it didn’t pan out when people started having issues and requested warranty work after ECU tune flashes.
I hope that the OTT guy proves me wrong - maybe Toyota is more flash friendly?

you are correct, still have the audi, and tuned vag’s in the past. Recall seeing a post of OTT #s posted by there people, as well arguing the theory of it being undetectable. Probably on the Taco forum, i’ll link it here if i find it.

It is undetectable until they detect it. Flashes are discoverable, no way around it.
If you blow a turbo or piston or break a piston rod and you are delivering more boost than the factory ECU tune calls for, do you think that the Toyota warranty will cover it??

I don't even know how people can tune a Toyota. Toyota has always locked their ECU down tight...That's why people go fast in Fords and Chevrolets, not Toyotas LOL

I guess I always assumed that they were pigtailing a box into the middle to basically lie to the ECM/TCM/etc about what was happening to "tune" it.

Haven't looked into it in a few years though, my information is probably outdated.

You can tune a piano but you can’t tune a fish?
