I’m picking up a Sport Premium and I plan on swapping my stock 20” wheels for a set of OEM OR wheels/ tire set up, as I can get a take off set from a member for a good/fair price. I don’t like the 20” wheel look and I think the 18” will offer a more compliant ride vs the low profile of the 20”. This truck will be mainly used for HWY/ road driving with some moderate off roading on fire roads and on the way to MTB trails, ect. Are there any negatives by sizing down and are the Sport shocks specifically tuned for 20” wheels? Any down side of doing this?

The sport shocks are the same that come on the SR5 just basic twin tube shocks. Anything you put as a replacement will probably be better. I am waiting on Bilsteins to come out with theirs. They arent tuned for just specific rim sizes

Go on FB Marketplace and find some takeoff 18's from a Tundra or a Tacoma.
Yep, I have a set of take off TRD OR wheels/tires lined up to buy, but wanted some thoughts form those who have downsized and if they noticed a difference in ride quality.

I changed my Sport wheels and tires about a month ago. I went with 18” wheels with the same offset. Changed to an all terrain Mickey Thompson tire. The ride is pretty much the same. Maybe a little softer over bumps. I used a 265/65/r18, which is nearly identical in size to the stock 20’s. The larger sidewall does make a difference over bumpy roads

I thought the shocks are the TRD Sport were the X-REAS type?

I guess i got bad info from the dealer, they told me the Sport came with the X-REAS and the Limited came with the AVS. Based upon this info i change to a TRD Off Road Premium...

Good info, thanks. I have yet to see an offset listed for the 20” Sport wheels? Is it 55, same as the OR?

X-REAS is no longer a thing in this new generation of vehicles for Toyota and Lexus on TNGA-F. And thank the lord for that. AVS is its successor - pretty much the same exorbitant parts replacement cost, but minus all the potential hydraulic leak headache.

Sadly, it's just another case of dealerships that have 0 clue what they are talking about or doing in regards to 6th gen. SR5 and Sport shocks are as plain Jane as can be.

Have you thought about just swapping the tires to a 275/60R20? That's a super common 1/2ton truck size (economical).

I seen a few members doing that, but It’s a bit cheaper going with a complete OEM OR take off set. Another main reason is that I don’t care for the Sport wheel looks and I like the OR wheels. Now if I can sell my take off set for close to what I payed for the OR wheels, then it will be a win.

the good part of x-reas is that its a closed system mechanically and has no sensors. its easy to replace to a standard gas shock system when the system fails. all you have to do is abandon the hydraulic cross linked lines in place and slide in some new shocks.

avs on the the other hand has too many electrical and sensors and costs and arm and leg to replace or to rip out and replace with conventional shocks.

plus there is no way to bypass the faults you get with avs is replaced unlike x-reas

i know the x-reas shocks are like $800 an axle i think but if that cost is too much, just rip them out and install bilstein 5160's 5100's i think?
