The new 2025 Toyota 4Runner SR5 brakes are insanely loud when cold. It goes away after braking hard a few times (or about 5 minutes of driving), but you will turn every head in the city when leaving your parking spot. I have been told ad nauseam by my dealer that the brakes have a break in period (duh), but this is ridiculous.

I can reproduce the noise every single day after letting it sit for a few hours. Doesn’t matter going forward or reverse. It will squeal and make your ears bleed at the first few min of your drive. There seems to be no solution in sight, and I just have to slam on the brakes hard two or three times in the morning to make it stop.

Dealer says to just keep an eye on it, everything looks fine on their end.. I am dumbfounded.

Is there a TSB for this, or is it still too early for Toyota to admit or acknowledge anything is wrong?

The same exact happens to me. Only while reversing though.

It started happening 3 days after I bought it. After parking my car (outside on my driveway) for a night, the truck squeals like a dying animal when I back out in the morning for work. This would happen to me may be 80% of the time.

I took it to my local dealer and they replaced the rotors and brake pads (same parts as the original). It was fine for the first few days and it is coming back. Not as often as I used to hear it. But It came back.

The dealer said that I had to wait until Toyota issues a TSB if this happened again with the new parts.

I read this is not just a SR5 issue. I heard this happens with other trims as well.

We all need to bug the dealers/Toyota so this gets a TSB and gets fixed before the warranty runs out or something...

It's a well known issue across multiple TNGA-F vehicles, brake squeal when cold, but no official fix yet afaik

Most people report it mainly in reverse though

Took mine to the dealer today for the same problem, they found “no issues.” It’s definitely worst when reversing. 865 miles

Sounds about right.

I'm at 1,200 miles, it is definitely worse when in reverse and breaking lightly but still very present and very loud. Dealer found no issue and basically just shrugged. I guess we just have to wait for a TSB.

I've found myself backing into parking spots more often while the brakes are warm so that I can pull out going forward with less obnoxious squealing in the mornings.

So irritating.

Break squeal is caused by vibration. Think of a chair and that annoying noise dragging across a floor. It’s harmless. Most likely caused by the haze of rust that builds up on the rotor face. I back in everywhere. I have yet to experience it.

Watch the beginning of this video, is this what most people are hearing?
Car Care Nut refers to a complete change in brake system so it seems as if they screwed something up.

This is exactly what mine does. I can’t even sneak out at 6am to dunkin donuts anymore because the entire neighbor will snitch on me. I’ve opened a case with Toyota and expressed my disappointment. There is no excuse for this and what pisses me off is now that I own it this is my problem I have to chase them down to deal with.

That's the same screech mine makes as well. Still no fix in sight. I have talked to 2 local Toyota dealers. TAS in place to research a fix, but they are telling me they don't want to replace rotors, pads, calipers, etc. because they believe it will happen again. It is frustrating. If your vehicle is doing this, please notify your dealer to file a TAS so Toyota can issue a TSB for repair.

Don’t rely on your dealership. File a complaint https://support.toyota.com/s/questions-comments?language=en_US

Yes, at 0:25. This is the exact noise mine makes. Loud, LOUD squeal, not a feint squeak. It is a LOUD squeal when the brakes are cold.
