Just jumping in to mention I have car seats in the back seat and have taken multiple long road trips with the kids in the back. Zero complaints from them. Also, the overall ride quality is totally fine for me and my family. We had a 2016 TRD Pro until we got this one and the difference is negligible, IMO. Just depends on what you're used to, I guess. Our other car is a Sienna and nobody complains or really comments one way or the other on which car we are taking.

Fox hasn't released for the 6th gen yet. I keep checking with Accutune and Fox but no ETA. Currently have Fox 2.5's built by Accutune on my 2021 ORP along with Icon UCA's. Rides like a dream and no brake dive. Will have them build some for my 6th Gen probably as well whenever both get here.

For road only, no off-road, would I feed a difference in terms of smoother ride over bumps and potholes. Base vehicle is a 4R6G SR5. For the cost, I would need it to be remarkably different.

Actually, its not too bad now.

Made a huge difference on my 2021 ORP. Truck is just planted. Going down washboard gravel type roads/trails there is now yaw running at a pretty good clip. Can hit things like elevated train crossings and the truck just lands with no bounce. They gave me several more inches articulation at each corner and don't hit the bump stops (can't remember exact amount off the top of my head). The kicker though was between shocks and UCA's all the stupid brake dive is gone.

All that said, all I have driven so far is a 6g Tacoma and no 4Runner so I can't say exactly. I think my 5g rides better/more planted than the Tacoma.

Bought the wrong vehicle. Rear seating is cramped and just can’t put a car seat back there with how bad this thing rides(tires aired down to 30psi). If you’re on the fence, please find the worst road you can on your test drive.
For me the best tires I have used on my 4Runner is the Michelin Defender LTX M/S. The tire rides very smooth. Been using them on my 4Runner for 20 years now. Consumers Reports rank them very high too. Sorry you are unhappy with your new 4Runner. I would chose a Highlander for a family.

Just wanted to say that I appreciate this post. Rear legroom and poor ride quality compared to prev get are my main concerns that have me on the fence about buying. l Love the styling though.

My personal experience is that the ride quality is better than the 5th gen in my off-road premium. The sr5 is cheap truck with cheap suspension. You get what you pay for there. Rear legroom is barely noticeable but the cargo area feels much larger IMO

Ride quality on the 6th gen versus the 5th gen, well, no comparison. The 6th gen has more power and torque (for merging on the highway) and it just rides smooth. I have no complaints at all with this truck, now that I figured out how to get Android Auto to start up each time I start the truck. For those of you buying an SUV and so worried about ride quality, is a mini-van an option or would that be too un-cool for your current lifestyle?

I just wanted to post and say that I understand buying a vehicle thinking it will fit your needs, and then realizing a bit later that it's not really what you were hoping for. Sure people will say that's what test drives are for, but you can't always gauge all your needs and feelings from a test drive that you're excited about because it's a vehicle you've been waiting for, but it's also a short representation of what your time in the vehicle is going to be like.

I sold my 2021 Civic Type R because I could get more than what I paid for it, and bought the new 2023 Civic Type R. The seats in that are HORRIBLE, but on a short test drive it felt fine, but for longer drives it was actually painful. I do have a bad back, so it's a constant issue while buying cars for me. We sold that 2023 Type R and bought a 2024 Cadillac Blackwing CT4V 6speed, and it was the most perfect car I've ever owned, but a week after we bought it my wife lost her job, so 6 months later we sold it to pay off our 2023 Pilot TrailSport as well as some of our daughter's medical debt. Don't regret it at all since it was the right decision, but decided then to pick up a 2024 WRX since it was almost $6k off and .9% for 72 months. Well..this seat is 100 times worse than the CTR seat, but on a 30 minute test drive, it felt fine. Little did I know I needed to test drive it in lots of bumper to bumper traffic and long straight driving (to be like my commute) than the fun curvy roads I test drove it on. It's a huge difference.

All this to say..I get it man, and I hope you find your solution.

Agree 100%. I used to drive a Tacoma back and forth to work, 35 miles each way on the highway. Just wanted a tire that was quiet on the highway and hands down the Michelins were it. Made a huge difference in overall comfort.

Still got it. Main issue is ride quality but might do a tire upgrade at some point. Others with non-sr5 trims seem to have no issue so might just be the stock tires. It’s just real jittery on the road I normally drive.

I know what you’re talking about. I think my TRD ORP is a little jittery too. Had a similar experience with the new Tundra as well. I wonder if it’s just a characteristic of the TNGA platform. Lowering PSI to what is recommended on the door sticker helped a tiny bit. I’m just learning to live with it and enjoy the other pros that a 4Runner provides over a “soccer mom/dad” type suv.
