Hi all,

Anyone have a Starlink Roam plan? I’m curious on how you mounted the antenna and routed power. Would love a way to have it powered from the hybrid battery and available while driving.

if you get the Roam 100GB plan, you can place it it Standby mode for $5/month. In this mode, unlimited data at 500kbps anywhere in the US.
Thanks!

I just use the Veritas Vans mount with magnets. I have the ARB rack with one of the rear bars missing which makes a great spot for the starling. I PPF'd a section of my roof and when I need it I just throw it up there. I have the battery pack on it so I've got 4 hours or so of battery. I rarely need it more than an hour or two at a time in dead areas. If I need more I'd just run a USB C cable up there and keep it running. Plus with the battery it stays on even when I turn off the 4runner.

Added bonus, I keep it in the rig when not using it and when riding in someone else's rig I can just throw it on their roof and have a connection no matter what.

I'm using the starlink mini mounted in the veritas vans mount with the magnetic feet. I have a trail hunter and it fits exactly between two of the roof rails and can't be seen from the ground. The power cable I have running by the roof rack through the molding down to the power outlet in the back of the Trail Hunter. I do run it through a jackery battery so that when I stop to get gas the whole thing doesn't have to reboot. It works well, although on my trips I do take it off of pause and get the unlimited plan since we seem to go over the 100 gig constantly this from the non-stop live streaming from my passengers. This setup also lets me make phone calls and have internet and all those no cell phone areas but I travel through.

If you are referring to the Starlink mini? I use these mounts, mounted toward the rear of the my roof rack and run the cable through the rear hatch door. This method Is secure and is less likely to deter theft vs magnets.

I have mine mounted inside one of my Roam cases. They sell a mount (quite overpriced at $95, IMO) that includes a grommet and plug in case you need to drill a hole to route the power cord out of the box.

For now, I just keep a small portable battery that keeps the starlink running over a full day right inside the case so it’s all sealed up and secure.

Do you remove it when you need to use it or how is it getting direct exposure to the sky?

Nope, it works as it is shown mounted inside the case. No need to remove the starlink. We can be driving down the road and have a strong signal, or can be in our tent and also have a strong signal.

I have it mounted on the roof rack. Enclosure is custom made 3D printed. I designed it so it stays flush to the rack frames. It’s very inconspicuous unless you watch with attention. I’m experimenting with a new fully enclosed top design so it doesn’t shine all white. It has 1/4 threads in case I need to remove from the vehicle and use with rentals/turo, in which case I use suction cups similar to Veritas Vans or magnet mounts, depending on the vehicle roof shape/material. In my 4Runner I get power from a pre-wired aux in the front. The only annoying thing is it goes off when you switch off the vehicle. For my use case, it’s still ok. Hope this helps with your project
