Skid Plate Recommendations for SR5? Oil change drainage considerations

The Trailhunter ones are steel correct? How much weight does that add?

Yes they are steel. Not sure about the weight, when the 2026 4Runner arrives in the next couple weeks the skids will be installed when I pick it up.

I have the Landcruiser skid plate. It’s identical to the TRAILHUNTER skid with two exceptions:
- it says “TOYOTA” vs “TRAILHUNTER”
- it has a straight front edge vs the angular cutouts on the TRAILHUNTER version (this somewhat prevents the chin spoiler from fitting)

I like having TOYOTA in there vs TRD or TRAILHUNTER. and I have no intentions of putting the chin spoiler back on. So, it’s a good fit for me.

It does have to come off for oil changes. I pay my 12yo $10 to take it off and put it on before/after dealer visits.

Just looked at the Toyota Canada site and that skid is double the price of the Trail Hunter front skid. I don't see an option for the transmission/transfer case skid. Is that skid plate one larger piece that provides more coverage?

Rival4x4 aluminum plates. They have a drain opening and filter access removable port, so you don’t have to remove the whole thing when changing your oil. I personally placed a Fumoto valve as a drain plug and live has become easier. Fit and quality of the skid plates are great.
