I came from my Nissan Pathfinder platform. I’ve been hearing Nissan talking about an Xterra for years. Kind of adhere this announcement please last year of the year before they were having financial difficulties.

I like this. I wish the 4R was better about this.

We do have at least one hole through the firewall and lots of aux switch positions and that's all fine.

I don't know what he means by "pilot holes" exactly but I'm thinking of mount points not just places to run wires.

Why do we have to carve everything up to install a bumper? Especially in back. And apparently some people's frames don't even have nuts for mounting rock sliders? And why do we have to contort so hard just to mount an air pump or inverter somewhere? There are plenty of physical spaces both inside and outside the cabin, but none are actually easy to use.

And in the cargo area I am always wishing there were strong D rings mid-way up the side walls all the way forward at the seat backs, and all the way back by the door too, ideally maybe mid way too. so you could strap things standing up to the walls or to the seats and keep the main central area still open. (the baby seat pins are strong and accessible but not in a very useful location)

On the non-hybrid there is a big wasted volume under the floor that could hold both a pump and inverter, both inside the cabin so nice forever protection from the weather, but it's ridiculous to actually get at that space. There are pretty big dead space volumes in the side walls of the cargo area too which are used for some things in some trims, but they are useless otherwise because it's just a big solid plastic body panel that you would have to carve up. And the arm rests wtf... I so wish I could remove those... It's almost actually worth replacing the actual panel with some ugly home made plywood thing just to get rid of those STUPID F-ing useless arm rest tray things.

Even so, 4R isn't the worst about this but just not the best either.

I like the idea of just having at least a few paths for wiring and mechanical mount points in various useful places that would be easy to incorporate in the design and original construction and save a lot of pointless grief trying to retrofit after the fact as an owner where it wasn't facilitated.

Before the Runner, my SUV of choice was the the first production of the Nissan Xterra sold in 2000. I had over 230k miles before I sold it.

Greay budget SUV for the money back in the days.

Best camping, towing, fishing truck I ever owned (until recently). Not much for serious off-road but it was a beast in its day. Bulletproof drivetrain, decent room.
Absolute best part were the footholds build into the body. They were well thought out and necessary. Be interesting to see if some accountant kills them in the next iteration.
Those steps took lots of time off of roof loading and securing.
And made it safer.
Think I traded it at 140,000 still going strong.
