Following to see what you all come up with. The lack of the fold flattish seats from the 5th gen is one thing I'm not super crazy about. Of course that said in my 20 I had the rear seats removed and ran the full Goose Gear sleep plate system. I don't want to ditch the seats in this one so looking for interesting solutions. Or maybe Goose Gear will come up with a great solution save me the hassle for a small (large, lol) fee

Mines just a 42"x42" piece of plywood on top of 2 front runner wolf pack pro boxes.

It's a bit too small though, might toss this one and get a 45"x43" and build some legs for it

I didn't do any camping this year because I was way too busy with other things. I did get to do a lot of off-roading (mostly in my Jeep, but also a lot road trips and some off-roading in my 4Runner). I started thinking about the 4Runner for camping again. I figured out that just tossing a cheap cot in the back works fine as an extra bed in the back. I put together a short video showing what this looks like...

I also shared this as a separate post since it's kind of interesting on its own (I think), and diverges from what I was originally panning to do in this post. I might still do something more elaborate in the future, but I think the camp cot solution will work fine for now. I'm also probably going to get a RTT - eventually.

I imagine there's a lot of cots that would work equally well for this, but here's the one I'm using: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003696236 - I've owned one of these since 2022 and can say it's a lot more comfortable than sleeping on the ground or a hard platform. I purchased a second one recently, which is what got me thinking about trying it in the 4Runner.

It would be nice to have some permanent storage in the floor area to keep stuff stashed that you always need. Tools, recovery gear, fly fishing / climbing gear etc. I kept all that behind or under the seat in my Tacoma and in the floor storage of the Countryman. I’m definitely missing having that now.
Check out Colefax Campers. I had one in another vehicle and it was excellent quality.

I’ve been working on this over the last week or two for my 2025 ORP. It’s a work in progress and yesterday I painted the boxes black and am letting them dry before re-installing in the back. I built a drawer/sleeping platform for my old 3rd Gen DCLB Tacoma (with canopy) and I miss the organization and storage.

The driver side rear seat has been removed and in its place is a platform to hold a cooler or day bags for easy access and is attached to a 4’ long enclosed box which will eventually have a drawer to hold long items like hand tools, hiking poles, my tool kit, jumper cables, small compressor, etc. The box behind the passenger side rear seat is wider but shorter (roughly 40” long x 27” wide). That too will have a drawer installed and will hold other items (camp stove, pot, canned food, camp kitchen kit, paper towels, tarp, hammock, etc.).

The height of both boxes is around 10”, more or less level with the rear pax seat when folded down. I’m 5’10” and can stretch out in that space with the tailgate door closed. I have a little more head room if I move the front pax seat forward. I have an expedition weight Thermarest I’ve used for years to sleep on.

I mounted some anchor d-rings to the sides of the box to secure to the OEM cargo tie down points, and another one in the front to secure the box/platform to the mount that the driver side rear seat used to clips into.

I’ll post some more pictures when the paint is completely dried and I put the boxes back in the 4R.
