Since we're talking about filters what about the fuel filter on the 6th generation! It doesn't exist on the exterior of the framework. It is embedded inside the gas tank! My third gen had an external fuel filter that I would change every 30,000 miles and we're just talking miles we're not talking idle time in the stop and go to where traffic.
I cut one of them open and was thrown back by how dirty it was. And this is from top tier fuel that I typically run.
Perhaps I am missing something in the fuel filtering system, but I don't believe that filters are immune to clogging from the fuel we run today.
I digress.
Interesting, nothing lasts forever.

I also thought the oil filter was small...then I realized it was most likely designed by someone WAY smarter than me...and I haven't given it a second thought since. I know what I'm good at, and oil filtering is not my lane.
More oil capacity always beats less. Always.

That was the first thing that I noticed and the Simplicity of removal during an oil change . The same filters are used on the RAV4.
I welcome this canister style opposed to the element Style on our old 5th gens.

These filters are easy to find and are sold pretty much everywhere. Even walwort has the supertech version of these that are really pretty good!.

Short oil changes are in order with a turbo especially in extreme conditions.
Just my two cents.
Ditto. The canister filter on the 3rd Gen Tacomas was a pain - oil everywhere.

A good team of engineers should not simply design the strongest, longest lasting, etc. They design balance--something that works well as intended with good life and reasonable cost. It all goes together. Saying otherwise is silly.

Marketing might want lower prices, but a good company would not let that make bad compromises that really affect longevity or quality. As said here, all this was designed with smart people and waaaaaaaaay more experience than any of us--especially considering the whole team and time Toyota has been in business.
