I might be open to letting someone have mine, especially if the removal is clean

I'd be interested, I had toyota not install mine because I felt I could get a better deal and am looking for someone like you or maybe a different brand.I might be open to letting someone have mine, especially if the removal is clean
I haven't noticed it blocking my view. Might be a difference in our height and/or seat position. It might be possible to mount it on the other side of the mirror (just thought of this but haven't checked)Do you feel like it hampers your line of sight? When I look at stoplights, etc, it blocks things.
Starting to think about removing it
Removal should be straightforward. I'd carefully use a heat gun from the front of the windshield to help get the adhesive off, then clean with goo gone. The rest is just installation in reverse. I wouldn't let anyone do it unless I knew that they knew what they were doing. The Toyota dealership would probably just charge their hourly rate to remove it. It's a half hour job tops, but they will probably charge you an hourI might be open to letting someone have mine, especially if the removal is clean
Those things are triple the price of a comparable Viofo/Garmin/etc.
But having it come from Toyota and be a supported thing is probably worth it to a lot of folks.
ALLLL of them with wifi that I've messed with have had some pretty mediocre apps. Middling at best. Most of them are straight trash. I have a Viofo and the wifi connection does buggy shit with either bluetooth or Android Auto...I can't remember which. I remember it being something I had to fiddle with more than I should have to get the wifi to connect and pull the video to my phone. So that might not be just a Toyota thing.
Nice writeup!
I haven't had any issues with it, but I usually don't use the software. Once I got it setup the way I want, I just pull the SD card if I ever want the footage off it. The camera app software did seem a little clunky. I've got some aftermarket cams on my other vehicles that were cheaper and work fine too. I'm not sure if how you could use the OEM wiring harness with an aftermarket cam, but I'm sure it's possible.Circling back around to my own comment on this from months ago.
Yeah. I was wrong. Toyota's software for this dashcam is by FAR the worst I've experienced. It is absolute garbage. I was ready to throw it all in the trash last night when I tried to set it up.
I've set up several others of varying brands. Most of them are pretty bad, but Toyota's software/documentation is far and away the clear loser LOL. Viofo was the most painless so far. I have that in my Tunda and my wife's car. I'll likely pull the one from my Tundra and put it in my 4Runner. Or maybe the FITCAMX. I like how it doesn't attach to the windshield. Biggest gripe with the Viofo is when the wipers skip/go BRRRRT, it saves and protects the video. Pretty sure all cameras can be falsely triggered by things like that though.I haven't had any issues with it, but I usually don't use the software. My only minor gripe is that the g-sensor (if that's what it's called) is a little too sensitive. It gets engaged on pretty small bumps (beeps and holds onto the recording longer). Eventually I'll try to change the sensitivity.
Hope you got through the setup OK!
The last one I got is the rove r2-4k pro for my Jeep earlier this year. I've been pretty happy with that one but wiring it in was a lot more work the the OEM 4Runner cam with its wiring harness already setupI've set up several others of varying brands.
