Heads-Up for Anyone Upgrading a Standard Non-JBL Audio System (SR5, TRD Sport non-premium, TRD Off-Road non-premium)

Just finished upgrading the entire sound system in my SR5 (non-JBL), and I wanted to share a few tips that might save others some time and hassle.

Speaker Sizes

Dash Tweeter - 2.75 - 3.5 (I installed a 2.75 but gutting the original tweeter) / Harness - 72-8109

Front Door - 6x9 - Harness - 72-8109 / Bracket - Metra 82-8146 w/ some minor modifications using a drill. 3 out of 4 holes lined up, had to use drill to line up last hole.

Rear Door - 6.5 - Harness - 72-8109 / Bracket - Metra 82-8148 perfect fit.

Brackets / Harness

I had to reorder brackets and speaker harnesses because there wasn’t much reliable info online—I was basically guessing as I went. So if you're planning a similar upgrade, here’s what I did:
  • Replaced all factory speakers
  • Installed an aftermarket amp and subs
If anyone needs help or has questions about parts, wiring, or setup, feel free to reach out. Happy to share what I learned!

Radio speaker output harness (to aftermarket amp or loc) - You can find these at several sites but I bought the Amazon Red Wolf 10 pin one for $14 then used some speed wire to run to amp.

Current Audio Setup:

  • Amplifier: Kicker LX1200.5 5-channel amp
(In hindsight, the 7-channel version would’ve been a better fit.)
  • Front + Dash Speakers: Kicker KSS269 component set
(Planning to replace the dash speakers — they currently sound muddy at higher volumes.)
  • Rear Door Speakers: 6.5" Kicker 51KSC6504 - 2 way speakers
  • Subwoofers: Dual Kicker L7T 12" slim subs

Audio System Update
• Installed 2x Kicker 47KEYLOCs to defeat the stock head unit’s nasty bass roll-off and overly aggressive factory EQ. The low-end finally breathes like it should—tight, full, and natural.
• Both units are mounted behind the radio, powered via a T-harness sourced from Amazon (seller: AutoHarnessHouse). Not sure if links are allowed here, but feel free to PM me if you want the exact one I used.

• Started 3D printing custom tweeter brackets for aftermarket installs. Dash area can comfortably accommodate up to ~4" tweeters now.
If anyone needs help with fitment or wants the STL file for the bracket, feel free to reach out—happy to share!

Excellent info and strong first post!! I'd be looking for the non-JBL standard audio system's speaker specs

What components did you upgrade to exactly? - speakers, subs, amps
