So very weird issue.

I get my phone paired and setup with my truck using the 4Runner Device menu and confirm all prompts on both the phone and the infotainment console. Everything works great, I can use my CarPlay as designed all thru the week, unless…

if I start the truck remotely and then get in it to leave, CarPlay does not initialize. I try syncing both via WiFi and Bluetooth. Both fail. If I delete my phone and try to repair it, it fails.

The only way I can get it to work again is if I delete the placeholder in the infotainment unit for the unsync-able phone, turn off and get out if the truck, wait at least 30 seconds and then start the truck manually, re-add/re-pair the phone from scratch. Very, very frustrating!!!

I assume that this is a problem with the Toyota software in the truck as I never had this issue in my Ram. I hope that maybe a new software update for the console will fix this, but after owning the truck for a few months now I have not seen any new software updates.

Anyone else dealing with this issue? Anyone know if a fix or workaround?

thanks in advance!!

its not a issue the software, its a quirk of doing remote starts and leaving your head unit on from last ignition on. this has been the norm with BT connection on toyota head unit since the late 2000's. this is nothting new for the old timers.

its because you remote start it, the head unit times out looking for your phone to connect and will do a soft lock out of searching for a phone.

the only was to re-initialize the process is to to hold the power button on the head unit for 3-5 secs (per the manual) and it will soft reset the head unit and your phone can re-pair with the head unit.

Yes, holding the power button of the head unit does the trick. I was equally as frustrated and this was the easy fix. I used to drive a bit then put it in park to turn the engine on and off just to repair until I found the reset button.

Yes, I have the same exact issue when remote start. That’s the only time. The way I resolve itI just go into >Settings >Bluetooth & Devices >Device name shows my phone and then all I do is toggle the button that says “Use for Apple CarPlay“ and bam I’m in. I saw the other responses and I will try that as well to see if it’s a quicker fix.

This would happen even without using remote start if your phone was out of range and you hopped in and started the rig.
