Great thread timing, was about to start one about seeing the damn duck on all kinds of vehicle dashboards, not just Jeeps anymore. Our society's group think is so sad 😅

Actual Google search I did with my son:
What's with all of the ducks on Jeep dashboards, and how can we make sure it doesn't happen with 4Runners?

I think the duck thing is a cry for attention. The more we sit here speculating about “ what to do” the more attention we are giving it. Sometimes the best thing “ to do” is not talk about it. We don’t need to pick another animal to counter the duck animal. We don’t need to come up with some secret plan. If you wanna talk about Jeeps please go to a Jeep forum. Last time I checked, this is a four Runner forum.

Jeeps have ducks, Subarus have cows, and Ford Bronco owners have a similar practice involving little horses, sometimes called “Bucking Broncos.”

I guess the duck thing started on social media. Some chick left a note and a duck on someone else's Jeep, it got shared on social media and it does what it does. Now freaks buy themselves a bunch of ducks and fill their Jeeps with them.

I want nothing like that to happen with 4Runners. Maybe if I had a Tacoma and people left gift certificates redeemable for tacos, we could discuss something.

A coworker who bought a Jeep keeps getting them left on his hood when he parks in the city close by. He hates it. He calls them plastic Chinese trash he has to throw away. I was going to get him a bumper sticker of a duck with a diagonal line through it he can put in the corner of his windshield. But then I realize I would rather laugh at his weekly rants. That being said it looks like it's a fad that's dying because I see less and less of them.

Personally I would think that getting a reward for not breaking down while crossing a stream because you bought the wrong vehicle really isn't something I would want to be a part of. Back in the late 80s everyone who was into wheeling that had a Jeep would spend thousands (when that was real money) upgrading it so it would break on the trail. Jeeps probably were one of the best ads for selling Toyotas. About the only thing a stock Toyota pickup needed was a lift and larger tires.

I had a Jeep Wrangler before I sold it and got my second 4Runner. The Ducks are basically a simple act of kindness, I've had a couple days where I came out and found a duck on my Jeep and it really made my day. I have left many a duck for people if they already have them on their dashboard if their Jeep stands out to me. If they don't have ducks on their dashboard I don't leave one cuz not everybody is into that.

I knew about the jeep duck thing but its even worse than you thought. The story:
I drove a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon on Friday at Overland Expo East on a little offroad test track they built. Was fun. Got more off-camber on one of the spots than I would be comfortable in with my 4Runner - felt like I could have rolled. Overall the jeep was fine but didn't wow me as being somehow better - just a bit different. But the reason I'm posting is that I asked my guide what that bar on the dash is for (above the screen in the photo). the answer: "Oh, that's for the ducks". Seriously. So it really is a thing - one that Stellantis is leaning way into.

I somehow don't think this will take off quite as much, but the Yoda Yoda Toyota seems to be a bit of a thing. I'd smile if someone "Yoda'd" my 4Runner but am not planning to engage.

My main issue is they took the intention of what it was supposed to be and they just started buying their own ducks and put them on the dash themselves.

Confirmed. A friend bought a Jeep Rubicon and though it needed ducks. So he bought a bunch and put them on the dash. I collected enough ducks in my Jeep days to give each grandkid a couple. We have 11 - grandkids, not ducks. Never bought one for myself. It was kind of fun to return to my ride and find a duck on the door handle.

I was just watching this video the other day. I think this explains it.
