Installing CBI covert stock bumper + warn winch. Any install videos out there?

Fyi - I spoke to CBI about how to access the clutch and plug in the remote for the winch. Apparently you have to open the hood and reach down into the engine bay to do this. You cannot access the winch clutch and plug in the remote through the front grille. I am thinking about ordering the wireless remote receiver from Warn when I do finally go through with this.
Oh yeah, will be i stalling the Warn solenoid as well so I can turn off power to both the winch and remote module to ensure I dont drain my battery, connecting it to one of the Aux switches...

Hey. I found this guys install guide on a different forum page. I found it very helpful over the one that cbi offers


BEFORE YOU GET STARTED, DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY. FAILURE TO DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY BEFORE YOU UNCLIP HARNESSES WILL RESULT IN MANY LIGHTS ON THE DASH, AND YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE YOUR 4RUNNER INTO TOYOTA FOR THEM TO CLEAR ALL THE CODES.

Step 1. Lower front Bumper Clips & Bolts

Remove all the 10mm bolts and clips holding the lower valance on.

Step 2. Remove Fender Well Clips

Remove the 10mm bolts and clips holding the felt liner, fender flare, and fender together. Your fender wells might look different since we have done some trimming to fit our 35" tires. Here you can see all the clips and bolts off with the liner separated from the flare.

Step 3. Pull Back Fender Flares

Now pull back on the fender flare and access the 10mm bolt holding the side of the bumper to the lower headlight area.

Step 4. Front Bumper Side Plastics

This part might be a little nerve-racking, although it's very simple. Just pull straight out on the bumper cover and release the tabs that slot into place. A quick pull is usually better than slowly pulling on the bumper plastics.

Step 5. Remove Passenger Clip

Unclip the light grey passenger side clip.

Step 6. Remove Driver Clips

Unclip both passenger side harnesses.

Step 7. 19mm Bolts on Crash Bar

There are 19mm bolts holding the crash bar in place on the top and bottom. Remove all these bolts.

Step 8. Remove Crash Bar

Just pull straight out on the crash bar and set it to the side. You will not reuse this piece.

Step 9. Center Support Brace

Step 10. Prepare Bumper For Trimming

Set the bumper on a rug or something soft to prepare the bumper for trimming. Be careful not to damage any of the sensors or adjust the grille shutter or grille shutter harnesses. If you alter any of these, you may get some check engine lights after the installation.

Step 11. Remove Center Screws on Lower Valance

To remove the center lower valance, start by removing the screws on the lower and upper valance. I believe there are 12 total screws holding the top and bottom together.

Step 12. Separate Clips on Lower Valance

Once the screws are removed, loosen the tabs that are holding both the upper and lower valance together.

Step 13. Pull Back Lower Valance

The lower valance is sandwiched between the upper valance and the backside of the bumper plastics. You will need to turn the bumper over, and pull back the upper valance in order to pull out the lower valance.

Step 14. Separate Lower Valance Cover

Now, fully remove all the last clips holding the lower valance in place on the factory bumper plastics.

Step 15. Remove Lower Valance

The lower valance should be free to remove. You will not reuse this piece.

Step 16. Re-Secure Top Valance

Once the lower valance is off, re-secure the top valance back to the factory bumper plastics using all the screws and tabs.

Step 17. Trim Lower Valance

Here is a rough idea of the final cut line. Since we didn't have any installation instructions, we first cut out the center portion, did some test fitting, and then marked our final cut lines.

Step 18. Upper Valance

Be careful when cutting along the top line, not to cut this black plastic piece behind the bumper plastics. This black plastic piece will slot behind the CBI bumper, which provides support for the bumper's entire front clip.


Step 19. Test Fit Bumper

Once the lower valance and bumper plastics are removed and ready, clean your lines up with a flap disc if you're experienced, or just use some sand paper or a file.

Step 20. Mounting The Winch

CBI provides really good access for the winch bolts. Bolt on your winch and get ready to mount the bumper.

Step 21. Bumper Hardware

Here is the hardware provided by CBI + the OEM 19mm bolts on the top right. CBI provides you with the bumper and two sets of support brackets. One support bracket for the lower bumper corner in the wheel well, and another large L bracket that we did not use.

The 1" hardware + flange nuts go on the top of the bumper and mount from the top down.

The 1 1/4" hardware + flange nuts go on the lower portion of the bumper and mount from the front to the back.

Re-use the factory 19mm bolts where you can into the pre-threaded factory nuts.

The small carriage bolts are used to mount the side brackets that connect the CBI bumper to the OEM bumper plastics + felt liner.

Step 22. Dry Fit Bumper

Test fit the bumper into place and loosely attach your hardware all the way around.

Step 23. Mount The Bumper

Here is a look at how the hardware is mounted to the bumper and frame rail.

Step 24. Side Support Brackets

Mount the side support brackets with the carriage bolts.

Step 25. Final

And to answer about reaching the remote plug in. My hand can actually reach it through the front bumper. A bit tight. But do able for myself.

i just installed one and videoed most of it but i haven't had time to edit everything yet. is there a certain part where you're stuck? i can DM it some clips. i can reach the controls through the bumper from the outside.

I have the bumper from Rago Fabrication, and I can’t reach in from under the hood at all. I don’t think it’s going to be possible with the CBI bumper either. So, my Bluetooth remote flaked out on me and didn’t connect. Fortunately, I was just testing it out. It finally started working again a few days later. If it does it again, I’m going to find a way to mount the control box under the hood somewhere, so I’ll have a hardwired access point. Had I left the light bar off, I would be able to access the clutch and control box, but I just didn’t like the way it looked without it. Worst case scenario is that I ditch the light bar.

OK I made a thread. Posted the electrical pre-install; Will post the bumper part in a follow-up as soon as I edit it. Strictly to help a brother out.
